How To Add Facebook Live Chat To Your Website in 10 Minutes
Live Chat is one of the best tools to communicated with your website visitors in real time. Adding Facebook Live Chat to your website can be a great way to engage with your website visitors. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it in around 10 minutes:
1. Go To Facebook Developers Page
Sign in with your Facebook account and go to developers page. Then, click on create a new app button that is located in top righthand corner of the page.
2. Fill Out The App Details
Once you have clicked the “create a new app” button, you will be directed to the next screen where you must fill out some basic information about your business/website. Once you have filled out the correct category, name of your organization etc., click next. You will be asked to enter your website URL along with upload an image for your business/website. This will be shown in the live chat feature when someone taps on it from their smartphone or desktop device.
3. Create A Webhook And View Your Webhook Code
After creating an app, you will be provided with a webhook code which can be later used while adding the Facebook Live Chat feature to your website. You will also be given other options like setting up Callback URL but for this tutorial, we won’t need this option since we are doing everything on our own domain i.e. www.example.com (without www). So once you see this message, type example into Callback field and press “Create Webhook” button at the bottom of the page:
4. Install Livechat Plugin
Now, go to WordPress dashboard, install and activate the Livechat plugin. Once you have activated it, login to your Facebook page or profile that you want to add the feature on its website. Go to “Settings” menu on the left side of your Facebook page > click on “Live Video” option at the top of the page > then click on the “Get Started” button right next to the live chat icon.
5. Paste The Webhook Code You Got From Facebook
After clicking on the Get Started button, you will be asked to paste your webhook code which is located at Step 3 of this tutorial. Once you press “Connect With Webhook” button, you will be redirected back to Facebook where you can see that your webhook has been successfully initialized. If not, then double check if everything is entered properly and try again until it works fine. While trying this process for first time, some people reported that their app called xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx has been disabled by Facebook due to security reasons even though they have followed all steps properly from this tutorial. In such case, just wait for a few hours and try again after cache/cookie expires from your browser or device. You may also try refreshing your page or clearing browser cache before trying again.
6. Add Facebook Live Chat To Your Website
Once you have successfully activated your app, go back to WordPress > go to “Livechat” menu item in left side of the page > click on “Facebook Live Chat” option > select “Add To Website” option from the list > paste the code in
<iframe> section that is located below
< body > tag of your website > then enter your Facebook page ID into “Page ID” field.
7. Configure The Plugin Settings
After pasting your Facebook page ID, click “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page. Now, go back to the plugin settings and configure them according to your liking. Once you are satisfied with all settings, press button called “Activate Plugin & Get Code” which is located right above “SEO Title Tag (optional)” input box. You will be redirected back to your website where you can see that Facebook Live Chat feature has been added. If it doesn’t show up for some reason, then clear browser cache or try again after waiting for few hours/days (depending upon your web hosting company).
8. Go To Facebook Page And Verify That It Is Working Fine
Now, go back to Facebook and verify if everything is working fine by checking either live chat icon or by sending a message to live chat directly through this link: https://www.facebook.com/yourpageid/?__a=1#!/yourpageid/messenger?redirect_uri=http://www.example.com/. When someone sends a message through this link, you will get an email notification just like when someone messages you directly on Facebook messenger app or website. You can also test this process by messaging yourself through the same link mentioned above then check your email inbox for verification purposes as well as to see what will happen if someone messages you through this link from a different device/browser etc.. Also, make sure that you have configured all settings properly from Step 7 of this tutorial before going any further i.e. only people who have access to the page profile should be able to send messages through this link otherwise not everyone will be able to contact you through live chat feature on your website even though they have sent a message through the same link mentioned above! You can also configure other settings such as customizing CSS style of chat window etc.. by going back to plugin settings and editing those options as per requirements. This tutorial was tested using WordPress 4+ running on Linux server using Apache web server software with PHP version 5+. It should work with most modern browsers but I haven’t tested it with Internet Explorer so use Chrome or Firefox for best results!
