Integration of JotForm and Firebase Realtime Database
JotForm?
JotForm is a simple yet powerful HTML5 form builder that can be used to create forms, surveys, quizzes, and signup/login pages. JotForm offers drag-n-drop features and multiple templates so that you can create the perfect form in no time.
Firebase Realtime Database is a cloud-hosted database and can be used as a backend for your realtime application. It is also built on Google infrastructure and comes with REST API making it easy to integrate with other services.
Step 1. Set up Firebase account. You can go through this quickstart guide from Firebase website. The process is very easy and won't take more than 5 minutes.
Step 2. Create new project in JotForm and add elements on your form page. Make sure you have already signed into your Firebase account with same email information that you registered with JotForm.
Once all the fields are filled-in, click "Continue" button to proceed to "Validate & Publish" page.
On the next page, fill in the form under "Integration settings" section. Copy and paste the "Api key" value from your Firebase dashboard into "Fb key". Then, copy and paste your "App URL" value from Firebase dashboard into "Hostname". Lastly, copy and paste your "Database name" value from Firebase dashboard into "db name". If you would like to save your form responses to Firebase Realtime Database, please tick the checkbox "Enable Firebase integration" under "Save Form Responses" section.
Step 3. Publish your form by clicking "Publish" button at the bottom of the page. This will create a public link to your form. (e.g. https://form.jotformpro.com/61174762604959)
Step 4. Test your form by going to link created in Step 3 on your browser. You should be able to see your form. In order for this form to work, you must make a submission first. So, click submit button and fill in any value into any field then click submit again. Now you should see the submission on your browser window. Congratulations! Your form works! Now let's integrate it with Firebase Realtime Database to store the submitted data there. (The process is similar as Step 2)
Step 5. Go back to JotForm and click on the "Integrations" tab at the top right corner of your screen. Then select Firebase integration from the drop-down list. On the next page, click on "Add new site" button under "Choose a platform" section. As you type in a desired name for your site, it will appear on the list below so you can easily select it. Once you get the site that you want, click on it to continue the integration process. On the next page, copy and paste the "URL" combined with ".firebaseio.com" into blank field under "Firebase site URL". Then copy and paste the "Database name" combined with ".firebaseio.com" into blank field under "Firebase db name". Also copy and paste the "Key" from Firebase dashboard into blank field under your app's key which will be displayed when you click on your site in Firebase dashboard (e.g."4RrUUC63Sqb7aC__pzNyNxY". Then copy and paste your full domain URL under "Site URL". Finally, click on "Connect" button to complete the setup process. Once you've successfully connected JotForm to Firebase database, you should see a message saying "Firebase site added successfully". Now, go back to your form submission page in JotForm and click on validate & publish button again. This time, there should be two options. "Saving to Firebase", and "Saving to jotform servers". Choose saving to Firebase option and click on "Validate & Publish" button again. You should now be able to see your form submission on Firebase dashboard (https://conspe.firebase.google.com. If you want to edit or delete some data from Firebase dashboard, simply click on it and change accordingly then click save button at the bottom of the page. But if you want to only export some data from Firebase database, use the fplowing steps instead. From Firebase conspe, select 'Import JSON' option from left side menu bar then download it as JSON file onto your computer via right click method. Once downloaded, install Json editor software such as Notepad ++ (PC. or TextWrangler (Mac. onto your computer which will allow you to open and edit JSON files easily without any errors or bugs during the process. Open JSON file using Notepad++ or TextWrangler software on your computer then edit/delete/export all desired data as desired then save changes using Ctrl+S or File -> Save As methods on both PC & Mac respectively. Afterwards, upload edited JSON file back to Firebase database by going back to Firebase conspe by clicking 'Import JSON' again then uploading it under 'Existing Import'. Note that you have to set up a new key each time you edit exported data or add new data back into Firebase database because each key is unique but you can always delete pd key by going back to firebase conspe then selecting 'Keys' tab then deleting specific key that has been used for pd data then setting it up again for new data that will replace pd data after editing/adding it back into firebase database using method shown above in step 6. B. Benefits of Integration of JotForm and Firebase Realtime Database There are many benefits of integrating JotForm with Firebase Realtime Database such as. No co-hosting fees unlike other online database services such as Microsoft Azure & AWS that require users pay extra co-hosting fees in order for their applications to survive forever even after they're shut down for whatever reason. Because of this, cost savings are possible since hosting providers usually charge by number of requests made per month so fewer requests mean less money spent overall on hosting fees that might otherwise get wasted if one day someone decides stop paying for hosting services altogether resulting in website shut down right away due to unpaid hosting fees.
