Integration of Cloud Firestore and HubSpot

Cloud Firestore

Cloud Firestore is a new database from Google. It’s a NoSQL database that provides a robust, scalable database for mobile and web applications. Cloud Firestore is a no-config database made for mobile development, and it’s also a fully managed database service.

Cloud Firestore is a cloud-hosted, no-configuration, schema-free document database with realtime data synchronization. It is a flexible, scalable, multi-tenant database with guaranteed uptime and strong SLAs. Cloud Firestore allows simple client-server authentication, offline support, and automatic conflict respution. Cloud Firestore supports single or multiple data centers that are distributed across the globe.

Like most other NoSQL databases, Cloud Firestore does not require you to define a schema ahead of time. Instead of defining a schema, you define how your data should look at rest. Then the data is automatically indexed for fast queries and realtime updates. You can define relationships between your documents and add querying constraints to ensure that your data stays consistent.

Who uses Cloud Firestore

  • Airbnb. Airbnb migrated from Amazon DynamoDB to Cloud Firestore in 2015. With Cloud Firestore, Airbnb can easily scale its growth without having to worry about scaling their databases; they can scale by simply adding more nodes to their cluster in the cloud. This allows Airbnb to focus on building their product and not on managing their infrastructure.
  • Coursera. Coursera migrated from Neo4j to Cloud Firestore in 2016. Since Coursera was already using Google Cloud Platform (GCP), they decided to use Cloud Firestore instead of migrating to another provider. The fact that GCP’s products work well together was an additional selling point for this migration. They also appreciate the simplicity of Cloud Firestore’s pricing model and its ability to scale up and down as needed.
  • Quora. To power its content recommendation system, Quora chose Cloud Firestore because its ease of use and ability to scale automatically with no downtime made it the best fit for the company’s needs. Quora also appreciates the support provided by Google’s developers and engineers when needed. For example, every month there is a “Firebase Friday” that brings members of the Firebase team together to answer questions about their products. Also, Quora has the option to use the open source version of the SDK if needed.
