A Quick Guide to Integrations For AWS IOT Using Appy Pie Automate:

Connect AWS IOT with Appy Pie Automate and build & operate IoT applications with full-scale support in a cloud-based environment. With Appy Pie Automate, it can be integrated with virtually any internet-connected device or service, without writing even a single line of code. You can integrate it with third-party APIs like Twitter, Facebook, Twilio, Slack, or even your own company's applications. Our automation platform lets you connect AWS IoT buttons with apps of your choice for a variety of actions. So, connect AWS IoT Button to Appy Pie Automate and trigger your workflows with just a single click. You can set up AWS IOT integration in just a few clicks and all without any coding.

Why You Should Use AWS IoT Integration?

The AWS IoT button is a simple Wi-Fi device with endless possibilities. AWS IoT offers services for all layers of security, including preventive security mechanisms, like encryption and access control to device data, and service to continuously monitor and audit configurations. AWS IoT customers are building connected home applications for home automation, home security and monitoring, and home networking. AWS IoT integrates with other third-party services, so you can build complete solutions. Integrating AWS IoT with any apps you use in your business can strengthen your monitoring while giving you real-time alerts. You can also use AWS IoT integration for traffic monitoring, public safety, health monitoring, or any function in your business.

Here is how you can use AWS IoT with Appy Pie Automate:

  • Connect AWS IoT to Twilio and send SMS messages to a contact or a group of contacts with a single click of the button. Appy Pie Automate will send your predefined Twilio message every time you press the AWS IoT button.
  • Integrate AWS IoT with Slack and automatically send a Slack message from a click of AWS IoT to congratulate your team members whenever they win a business deal.
  • Integrate AWS IOT with Gmail and manage your email account without any hassle. With AWS IoT-Gmail integration you can shoot Gmail email with the click of the AWS IoT button.
  • Integrate AWS IoT with Google Sheets and send and receive data from your devices to Google sheets.
  • Connect AWS IoT to PagerDuty and send notifications when an AWS IoT rule triggers an action. This AWS IoT-PagerDuty integration helps developers quickly get started building applications that send notifications from AWS IoT to end-users.
  • Integrate AWS IoT with Salesforce and add real-time notifications and alarms to your process workflow.
  • Sync AWS IoT with Google Drive and automatically store your AWS IoT data on Cloud. With this integration, you can also send data stored in a Google file back to your AWS IoT.

Appy Pie Automate brings together Triggers (like "Press Button") and Actions (like "Send Message") to complete an action in one app whenever a trigger occurs in another. This phenomenon is called “Connect” and these Connects help you automate repetitive tasks saving you the trouble of doing them manually.

Step By Step Guide For Creating Integrations For AWS IOT

AWS IoT Integration Requirements

To start with AWS IoT as a trigger

  • Wi-Fi network is required to operate AWS IoT Device.

Getting Started

Appy Pie Automate allows you to integrate AWS IoT as a Trigger app while connecting it with multiple applications. You can choose the desired pair to build integration and start mapping your AWS IoT device at Appy Pie Automate.

  1. Mapping AWS IoT Device

Select AWS IoT devices available for making integrations at Appy Pie Automate (Currently, we support Single Click IoT Button app integration). Press the “Continue” button for the next step.

  2. Fill DSN Details

    OR

Appy Pie Automate will ask for the DSN (Device Serial Number) to check for the authenticity of the device and make the connection with your particular device. You can find the DSN at the backside of your AWS IoT device. It is a 16 digit alphanumeric value (commonly starts with G03) that should be entered in the same order. It is a required field and without correct DSN the integration cannot work. Press the “Continue” button after filling the DSN properly.

Running Up the Setup

  1. Device Set-Up

To build the integration, the next step would be to map the device, follow the details given here:

    1. Download Certificate - For now, download and keep the file safe in your system. This certificate authenticates the AWS account through which the AWS IoT device can work as per the requirement.

    2. Download Private Key - Download the private key and keep it safe in your system for future application. This is an access key to the AWS Account to authorize the access of AWS IoT device.

    3. Reset Button - To reset your AWS IoT hardware device you need to keep the AWS IoT device button pressed for at least 15 seconds or by the time the blinking light becomes red. Once it turns red, it will indicate that the device is ready to accept the new setting and can work in integration with SMS message service. (The reset option is only applicable with the devices that have been integrated with Appy Pie Automate or any other App earlier)

    4. Configure Button - Once the device is reset, press the AWS IoT button again for 7-8 seconds to complete the configuration (blue light starts blinking).

      1. Your system will be able to detect a wifi network namely “Button Configure Me”. Connect to the network and open the link http://192.168.0.1/index.html to enter details & to configure your device.

Note: Before visiting the link, Configure Button details such as “Endpoint Subdomain” & “Endpoint Region” given in the description should be noted. Note these pieces of information in Notepad or WordPad to use in further steps.

      2. Next, you need to enter the Wi-Fi network details of the network you want to operate the AWS IoT device on. Select the Wi-Fi network name reflecting in SSID under Wi-Fi Configuration option in your system.
      3. Enter the password to connect with the network or click “Open Network” if it is an open network that does not require any password.
      4. After entering Wi-Fi Configuration details, AWS IoT configuration details will be filled on the same page. The two files downloaded and saved in earlier steps will be required here (AWS Certificate & Private Key).
      5. Certificate: Upload the AWS Certificate file from your system. It is the same file that was downloaded earlier while setting up the device.
      6. Private Key: Upload the AWS Private Key from your system.
      7. Next, enter “Endpoint Subdomain” and “Endpoint Region” details which were noted on a Notepad or WordPad earlier.
      8. Next, read the “Terms & Conditions” laid by AWS IoT in the link given and tick “CheckBox”. Configure button will be enabled once all the information is provided, click to complete the configuration. A new page will open, this will confirm that your AWS IoT device has been configured successfully.

    5. Get back to the Appy Pie AWS IoT Trigger set up and press the “Continue” button. Trigger app test will run with a success or failure report. Once successful, click the “Continue” button to set up the action app.

This will help in setting up the AWS IoT device as the trigger app in the integration. Connect makes it simple to automate your workflow. It syncs your data after every particular time interval to keep the information synced & updated in connected apps.

General Issues With AWS IoT Device

AWS IoT Device Blinks Red While Operating

Such kind of problems may occur due to some common issues listed below:

  1. Mapping of Wi-Fi connection to your device is not proper. Mistyping of passwords or wrong network selection.
  2. Wi-Fi networks may not be available because of the Wi-Fi area coverage issue. The AWS IoT device may be out of the mapped Wi-Fi range.
  3. The contact details mentioned are not proper. Double-check for the contact number including the country code to make the connection work properly.

Kindly, check for the stated errors and try to make the connection work again. If still facing the problem then you can contact our support experts via online chat.
