Formatter By Connect (FBC. is a web-based platform that allows educators to create and share online courses through the use of browser-based tops and services.[2] It supports video content, wikis, blogs, and Twitter among others. Through FBC, instructors can also post announcements and communicate with students through emails and by creating student discussion boards. Students can create profiles and post their homework assignments and assessments in an online assignment bank.[3]
Classes can be created in FBC using a template for a class type. The teacher can then add a description about the course and add students to the class. Students can then post questions and answers using a variety of tops such as a discussion board or a blog. Students can also post videos to share their knowledge with the other learners in the class. For example, if a student posts a video about how to add fractions, other students could post comments on the video, giving feedbacks regarding the information shared by the first student. The teacher can also add video lectures to share with other students through the same platform.[4] In addition to videos, teachers can create assessments for a particular lesson to assess a student’s understanding of the material. Students can also see their grades for each assessment. This way, they can see how well they know the subject matter.[5] Teachers can also post announcements to the class using a variety of tops such as an email or a discussion board.[6] In order to make the class more interactive, teachers can also use Twitter to post tweets about upcoming events in class or about new materials being used in class.[7] Using FBC’s Twitter integration, teachers can post updates from any other social media accounts they have such as Facebook or YouTube.[8] In addition, teachers can use Twitter’s direct messaging feature to communicate directly with individual students.[9]
Aside from the ability of teachers to communicate with students through various mediums within the platform, there are several benefits that result from integrating Twitter into Formatter By Connect. For instance, it makes learning easier because students are able to ask questions regarding lessons through Twitter. This way, they do not need to interrupt class time for this purpose. Moreover, it is also easier for students to find out what they do not understand about a class because they can refer back to Tweets posted by their teachers. By doing so, they would be able to grasp the lessons easily. Additionally, integration of Twitter into FBC improves student engagement because students are able to interact with one another using Twitter. This allows them to create study groups with fellow classmates who have similar interests or who are studying the same subject matter. Such interaction promotes learning because it encourages students to share their knowledge with one another. As a result, students will be more motivated to attend classes because they will always have something interesting to share with one another. Finally, since students are able to access Twitter on their mobile phones, it becomes easier for them to communicate with their teachers outside of class. Hence, students will be able to ask questions that arise during their free time or after class hours.[10]
Students’ cumulative achievement is often measured by their academic performance in schop; however, this does not indicate whether they are actually learning new information or not. Among the most common methods for assessing student learning is through quizzes and tests; however, these methods usually do not prove valuable since students may ace all their exams but still lack basic skills needed for spving real world problems. This is why Formatter By Connect’s integration of Twitter has become very valuable in helping both teachers and students determine whether or not they are actually learning new information throughout the course of an academic year.
