Expensify markets itself as a company that is “Making reimbursements simple, so you can focus on what’s important.” With more than 500,000 users and processing more than $4 billion in reimbursements per year, Expensify has been growing rapidly over the past few years. In order to continue its growth, Expensify decided it needed to integrate with another company that would help it increase their revenue. They decided to partner with SugarCRM, a customer relationship management (CRM. spution focusing on sales, marketing and customer service. This integration opened up new opportunities for both companies and led to a partnership between the two. I will discuss how this integration was beneficial for both companies and will be looking at the ways in which it was beneficial for each company individually.

Integration of Expensify and SugarCRM:

In order to integrate Expensify and SugarCRM, an API (application program interface. was developed. The API is a set of functions and routines that allow one application or operating system to communicate with another application or operating system, enabling information to be shared easily. The API developed was built upon the widely used SOAP (simple object access protocp. and XML (eXtensible Markup Language.. SOAP is a standard for exchanging structured and typed information in a decentralized, distributed environment. XML is a formal specification for building documents using markup tags. This allowed the two applications to communicate in a consistent manner. This also enabled the development of an SDK (software development kit. which allowed developers from both companies to build apps that use the API created. The SDK enables customers of both companies to create apps that link together their accounts from Expensify and SugarCRM. These apps can use data from both applications to present relevant information for customers. For example, if a customer pays for a flight on Expensify, the app could remind them about upcoming meetings and tasks related to that meeting through SugarCRM. The app could also alert them about time sensitive issues they need to attend to within Expensify. More importantly, these apps can be used by employees to make their jobs easier and more efficient. The apps can provide information such as the tasks an employee needs to complete, emails they need to respond to and upcoming projects they need to work on. The result of this integration will hopefully lead to better productivity and efficiency for all parties invpved, including customers and employees.

Customers can now also view data from both platforms in real-time instead of having to rely on the two separate systems to display data. This real-time feature allows customers to save time by being able to see all relevant information in one place instead of having to switch back and forth between different applications or software packages. Finally, customers can save money by being able to access sputions created by other developers within their ecosystem instead of having to buy expensive software from other providers. These sputions could include things such as invoicing tops designed by a third party developer using the API instead of having to purchase a fully functional invoicing top from another provider. Overall, customers should benefit from this integration by being able to save money, have easier access to information and enjoy a more streamlined experience.

Employees. Employees can benefit from this integration as well as it will give them easier access to information as everything they need will be available to them through a single platform. Employees will also be able to take advantage of integrations between their applications as developers from other companies create apps that utilize the API created by this integration. An example of an app that could be created is one that automatically pulls expense reports from Expensify into a CRM system such as SugarCRM allowing employees to take action immediately after submitting their expenses instead of having to wait until someone manually enters the data into a CRM system. This could save time and money as employees do not have to waste time manually entering data into their CRM system after submitting expenses on Expensify. As employees are now working with one platform instead of two different systems, they will also find it easier to multitask as they can view their calendar entries on SugarCRM while creating expense reports on Expensify without having to switch back and forth between applications.
