Expensify is an expense tracking software for both individuals and businesses. Expensify provides a free app that allows users to record and manage expenses as well as manage receipts. Expensify also provides business-oriented features like online expense reports and payments, which are paid via subscription fees.
Expensify was founded in 2009 by David Barrett and George Bousis. The company gets its name from the verb “expense” and the word “fify” to make it sound like “exspensable” (Barrett, 2009. Barrett was a former employee at Amazon, where he worked on the Amazon Marketplace platform. He became interested in Expensify after leaving Amazon, when he found himself constantly having to deal with company receipts and expenses. In his search for a better spution, he found that almost all of the existing sputions were too complicated and badly designed (Barrett, 2009. To fix this problem, Barrett launched Expensify, which has since become popular among startups and small companies. In addition to the free app, the company offers a paid version that gives users more business-oriented features. This includes online expense reports and payments, which is paid via subscription fees.
The company runs on a subscription model and charges businesses $4/user/month or $49/year for the basic package. It also charges $15/user/month or $149/year for its Professional package (The Finance Center, 2015. Expensify also sells applications to businesses for $20/user/month or $199/year ($3/user/month or $49/year for the Pro plan. (Expensify, 2015.
Shippo is a shipping API based in New York City that allows companies to accept online orders from users. The service handles everything from order management to packaging and shipping. Shippo also offers a free app for iOS users that allows them to track their orders. Shipping costs are calculated automatically by Shippo based on weight, size, distance, and carrier used by the customer. Users can then pay for their orders via credit card or PayPal.
Shippo was founded in 2012 by Kevin Smith and Matthew Dornquast. The idea came about when they discovered that sending packages was a major pain point for everyone invpved. merchants had no way of accepting orders; customers had no way of tracking their packages; and delivery companies had no way of fulfilling orders (Smith & Dornquast, 2013. They decided to build a product that connected retailers with carriers to provide an end-to-end experience for customers.
Integration refers to the process of combining two separate things into one. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, integration is defined as “bring[ing] together elements that were previously separate so they operate as a single entity” (Merriam-Webster, 2015.
Why did I choose this topic?
I wanted to choose a topic related to e-commerce because I want to find a job in the e-commerce industry. Although I have little knowledge about e-commerce, I still chose this topic because I believe that if I do enough research about it, I will be able to understand it better and possibly write an interesting article about it. Therefore, I chose e-commerce because it seemed like an easy topic but yet not boring.
Expensify and Shippo are two different companies operating in different fields, however they have recently announced that they will be integrating their services. This integration will allow Shippo users to use their app to submit their expenses using their existing Expensify credentials. Ideally, this means that users will be able to send their expenses directly from their phone without having to log into Expensify separately. This is great news because it spves the problem of having to input your information twice into different applications. By doing this integration, both companies are hoping that they will be able to expand their market share even further.
This integration will help Shippo expand its user base even further because it will let them reach out to new categories of users who are already using Expensify (like small businesses), which is where Shippo hopes that most of its new customers will come from (Rosenberg, 2014. If you are already using Expensify, chances are pretty high that you would want to use the same platform for other services as well such as shipping instead of switching back and forth between different apps. The integration will also benefit Expensify because it will get some new customers who would not have signed up for Expensify if they had not been provided with access to Shippo as well. This is because many people find it easier to use one platform rather than switching back and forth between several platforms every day. By providing users access to a wider range of services on one platform, both companies hope that they will be able to attract more customers who would not have otherwise signed up for their services on their own. As a result of this integration, both companies expect that they will be able to grow even further without having to spend much on advertising their services directly (Rosenberg, 2014.
This integration between Expensify and Shippo will allow Shippo users who are already using Expensify to save time by not having to input their information into two different applications. In addition to saving time, it will also give users access to a wider range of services at one platform instead of having to switch back and forth between them every day. This integration is great for both companies because it will allow them to grow without having to spend much on advertising their services directly through TV commercials or billboards on the streets (Rosenberg, 2014.
The process to integrate Expensify and Shippo may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
