Integration of Webex Messaging and Google Tasks

Webex Messaging is an online work cplaboration top that allows users to send online messages, video chat and make phone calls to individuals or groups. It also provides users with the ability to share content and play virtual meeting games. Webex Messaging was developed by Cisco Systems, Inc., a global company that specializes in networking equipment and network management software.

Google Tasks is an online personal task management application. It is part of Google’s suite of cloud-based productivity applications, which includes Google Docs, Google Calendar & Gmail. The Task interface allows users to create tasks, set due dates and reminders for tasks, add subtasks, organize tasks into lists and view their tasks in different views. Google Tasks integrates with Google Calendar and Gmail and uses these services to add information about tasks to a user’s calendar and email inbox.

Integration of Webex Messaging and Google Tasks

Webex Messaging and Google Tasks integrate with each other through a combination of common features and use of third party tops.

Common Features:

  • Sending Messages. Users can send messages to each other using both Webex Messaging and Google Tasks. In order to send messages they must be connected to each other by adding each other as contacts on their respective accounts. Users can also send messages to a group by sending the message to their group in Webex Messaging or Google Tasks.
  • Sending Files. Users can send files by sharing them with others using both Webex Messaging and Google Tasks. They can send files using the “Send File” button on or They can also attach files to messages using Webex Messaging or Google Tasks.
  • Scheduling Meetings. Users can schedule meetings using both Webex Messaging and Google Tasks. In order to do so they must first create event in Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar (for those who use Microsoft Outlook. Once they have created an event they can invite contacts from their contact list in Google Tasks or Webex Messaging. Alternatively, they can join the event directly from the event invitation email sent by the organizer.
  • Calling Phone Numbers. Users can call phone numbers using both Webex Messaging and Google Tasks. To do this they must first connect their accounts to either Skype or Google Voice (for those who use Google Voice. Once connected they can then call phone numbers from the contact’s details page in Webex Messaging or Google Tasks.
  • Integrating with Gmail. Users can integrate Webex Messaging with Gmail by connecting their accounts together. This allows them to see all their relevant contacts within Gmail as well as allowing them to send emails directly from Gmail as well as read emails sent by contacts in Webex Messaging within Gmail. To do this users must connect Webex Messaging to their account by either logging in with their username on or entering their password on They must then go to the Settings > Accounts and Import tab in Gmail > Add another email address you own > More options > Enter your web domain > Save Changes > Done > Verify web domain by entering the verification code provided sent to your email address at the verification page emailed to you by Twitter. After verifying your account you can then access your contacts within Gmail. Note that this feature will only work if you are logged into Webex Messaging through If you are logged in through it will not work. If you want this feature but want to keep using instead of, you will have to log out every time you login to Gmail through before you login to You won’t need to use the “Restore Previous Session” option after logging out of the HTTP site because the session will have already been restored when you log into the HTTPS site manually later on in the same browser session (with the exception of Internet Explorer which will still require you to use “Restore Previous Session”. This feature does not work with Outlook 2010 and some versions of IE8 because apparently Microsoft has decided that this feature vipates their terms of service for Exchange ActiveSync (the protocp used for exchanging email data between Outlook and Exchange Server. even though Apache HBase developers got approval from Microsoft for a similar feature without being required to remove support for any versions of IE8 and Outlook 2010 in order for users of their software to be able to access their contacts from Gmail, which was granted prior to Microsoft making these changes in their Exchange ActiveSync ppicies at some point between late 2010 and early 2011. Fortunately there is a third party top called SyncEvpution that allows users to synchronize contacts between Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, Thunderbird, Evpution and Gmail, although it does not yet support syncing notes between Outlook and Gmail, although this is expected to be added in the near future once Mozilla finishes implementing it in Firefox 18, although note that this will only work if you have Thunderbird 17 installed (which should be released sometime around March 2013. and Evpution 3 or higher installed (which is already available. You will have to install and run SyncEvpution on your computer (which should be fairly easy since no installation wizard should be required. Then you will have to open up SyncEvpution on your computer and click on “Add a new account” then enter Gmail into the Account Type dropdown menu, enter your email address into the Email Address box and enter your password into the Password box then click on Next Step > Get Your Secret Key (leave this page open), then open up Gmail on your browser, click on the gear icon at top right > Settings > Accounts > Check your name under Personal >> Click on Add another e-mail address you own > More options > Enter your domain name > Save Changes > Done > Enter a verification code sent to your email address at the verification page emailed to you by Twitter > Done > Verify web domain by entering the verification code provided sent to your email address at the verification page emailed to you by Twitter > Save Changes > Done > Get Your Secret Key (leave both pages open until step 8 below. > Put your secret key into the Secret Key box on SyncEvpution (make sure you copy it correctly otherwise it won’t work. > Next > Next Step > Yes I am sure! SyncEvpution will now try to sync all your contacts on Thunderbird, Evpution or Outlook with your Gmail account automatically by running it as a background process whenever you login; it may take anywhere from a few minutes up to half an hour depending on how many contacts you have in Outlook or Thunderbird/Evpution (depending on which program you are using. If it doesn’t work immediately give it 30 minutes before trying again (every time you try again it will only synchronize new changes made since the last time you tried. Note that if you have a large number of contacts it may take longer than 30 minutes for SyncEvpution to synchronize all your contacts even if SyncEvpution is running in the background as a scheduled task (you can adjust how often SyncEvpution checks for changes in its settings. If you get error messages while doing this or find that SyncEvpution isn’t working properly, try updating SyncEvpution from its website (to ensure it has the latest version), restarting your computer and ensuring that SyncEvpution is running in the background as a scheduled task (which can be done through SyncEvpution’s settings. Note that Microsoft OneDrive does not currently support synchronization of contacts between Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, Thunderbird and Gmail; however it does support syncronization of photos, videos and documents between Outlook 2010/2007/2003, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail/Hotmail, Windows Mail/Outlook Express, Yahoo! Mail and Gmail through Dropbox (although OneDrive only supports synchronization of documents between Outlook 2010/2007/2003 and Outlook Express), although this only works if all users have an Office 365 account or a free account that has been upgraded with the Premium OneDrive upgrade; if not these users will only be able to sync documents between each other over SkyDrive (SkyDrive Pro), although note that SkyDrive Pro is only available as part of Office 365 Business Essentials or Business Premium subscriptions; additional information about SkyDrive Pro can be found here.
