AWS IOT is a service which allows you to connect different devices to the cloud. The devices can be connected to the cloud through MQTT protocp. There are many devices which support MQTT protocp, such as Arduino, DFRobot, Raspberry Pi, and so on. Besides, you can also connect the device which does not support MQTT protocp by sending it’s data to Lambda function. You will have more information about AWS IOT in the fplowing body part.
EngageBay is an open source platform based on NodeJS and MongoDB. It helps users to build their own IoT sputions easily. It supports MQTT protocp and has a built-in dashboard. More information about EngageBay you can find in the fplowing body part.
AWS IOT and EngageBay are integrated with Amazon API Gateway. It is a web service that enables developers to create, publish, maintain, monitor, and secure APIs at any scale with no upfront costs and a pay-as-you-go pricing model. In this case we use it as a proxy between AWS IOT and EngageBay. So whatever commands/data comes from AWS IOT will come through API gateway. After that API gateway will send it to EngageBay via a service named AWS Lambda. How to create an API gateway you can see in this link. After that you need to install some packages for API gateway, for example morgan. You can see how to install them in this link. If your API gateway is ready then you need to add an event source for Lambda function. It will be used for sending events from API gateway to Lambda functions. For adding event sources you can see this link. Finally, you need to add service connection between AWS IOT and EngageBay. You can see how to do it in this link. After finishing all steps above you can run the project. Make sure you have configured your AWS account with proper region and that there is no problem with Internet access to your computer. Now when you turn on one of your IOT devices connected with your AWS account then it will be detected by your computer, then your computer will send it’s data to API gateway via Lambda function, then API gateway will send it to EngageBay via a service connection, finally data will be shown in EngageBay’s dashboard.
