Amazon S3 is a web service that makes it easy to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. Your data is available to you 24x7x365 through the AWS Management Conspe, APIs, or SDKs (software development kits. You can set permissions on your data so that you decide who has access. Amazon S3 is designed to deliver 99.999999999% durability, and stores objects across multiple facilities including Oregon, Northern California, Dublin, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney, Sao Paulo, and Seoul. Each object is redundantly stored across multiple servers. This helps to eliminate any single point of failure. Amazon S3 stores data directly into the storage infrastructure. It is not necessary to know anything about the physical location of the data or the hardware at the location.
Amazon S3 is part of Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is a cplection of over 70 cloud computing services. AWS offers three basic categories of services. compute services, storage services, and content delivery services. The compute services are broken down into two areas. web services and application services. The storage services fall under the buckets of storage and database. Content delivery services are for delivering digital media files over the internet. Some of these services are S3 Compute, Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Relational Database Service (RDS), Simple Storage Service (S3), DynamoDB, Simple Notification Service (SNS), Simple Queue Service (SQS), Simple Workflow Service (SWF), Storage Gateway, Elastic Block Store (EBS), Storage Transfer Service (STS), Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), Database Migration Service (DMS), Route 53, CloudFront, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, CloudHSM, CloudTrail, CloudWatch Logs, Lambda, Import/Export, X-Ray and Glacier.
The compute services provide resizable compute capacity in the cloud. EC2 provides virtual servers running on the same physical hardware as Amazon's own websites. RDS provides a web service interface to a relational database management system (RDBMS. With SWF you can create and run workflows that coordinate tasks across distributed software components running on different servers at AWS or on-premises. SQS enables reliable message queueing between different components and applications running at AWS or on premises. SWF and SQS can be used together to create distributed software architectures that process messages asynchronously using one or more queues as a communication medium between processing nodes.
This paper will focus on the integration of Amazon S3 and Reddit as illustrated in figure 1 below:

Reddit is a social news aggregator that displays new links and allows users to vote on them. Users can also post their own comments and questions on threads. Reddit was created in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian as a way to organize the increasing number of posts with images submitted to LiveJournal using an open source platform based on PHP. In 2006 Reddit was acquired by Condé Nast Publications and now operates as a subsidiary with Advance Media responsible for its operation. Reddit is divided into categories called subreddits where users can submit content such as text posts or direct links to pictures and videos hosted elsewhere online. Other users then vote the submissions up or down that determines their position on the site’s pages. The most popular posts rise to the top with most positive votes while the least popular posts sink to the bottom with most negative votes. The posts displayed on Reddit’s pages are based on user activity from recent updates from subreddits as well as from activity from other sites. Reddit allows users to subscribe to other users from around the world as well as subscribe to particular subreddits as their source for news and entertainment. In 2009 Reddit launched Redditmade where users could purchase products from local businesses around the world using a new business model called crowdsourcing. In 2010 Reddit began hosting Ask Me Anything online forums where users can ask questions to celebrities appearing in the subreddit r/IAmA. In 2011 Reddit launched a standalone site called Upvoted where users could read stories that were voted up by the members of r/upvote. Currently Reddit has over 36 million unique visitors per month and serves over 6 billion page views per month (Alexa Internet, 2017.
