Integration of Zoom and macOS Calendar

Zoom is a one-to-one and group video chat, web conferencing and screen sharing service. It is based in San Francisco, CA and was founded in 2013 by Eric Yuan, Alan Liu, and Danny Yeh. The company has offices in Chicago, IL, Mountain View, CA and Beijing, China. Zoom offers services for video conferencing, online meetings, webinars, classes, and virtual workshops. Zoom is a private company with over $100 million in funding from investors that include Bessemer Venture Partners, Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Gpdman Sachs, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Google Ventures, and Tencent Hpdings Ltd.

macOS Calendar is an application preloaded on Apple Inc.'s Mac computers and works as part of the macOS operating system. It is included with every version of macOS. Calendar offers the ability to create and view events and to-do lists. Users can invite people to an event or send invitations to multiple people using email addresses or iMessage addresses (iCloud account required. The application also includes the ability to set alarms for events. The calendar can integrate with the default mail client on macOS to allow users to schedule meetings with invited contacts using natural language. It can also be used to schedule appointments on Apple Watch. Since 2016, Calendar also integrates with Siri, allowing users to ask questions about upcoming events and create new events using voice commands.

Integration of Zoom and macOS Calendar

One great feature of Zoom is its integration with macOS Calendar. Users can easily schedule meetings and events directly from their MacBook. As stated above, the software offers the ability to schedule meetings by integrating with the default mail client on MacBook. Users can also invite others to events through email addresses or iMessage addresses (iCloud account required. For example, if I want to schedule a meeting with my friends in New York City, I can type “New York City” into the search bar at the top of Mac’s Calendar app and see the names of all my friends with addresses in New York City. Then, I can click on the contact information of someone I want to meet up with and click on the “Invite” button on the top left side of the screen. From here, I will be prompted to either message them through iMessage or send them an invitation through email. I will select iMessage and from there I can send them a “message” inviting them to my event. Once they click on the link in their message they will be prompted to create an account online or sign into their existing account, and then they are sent an email invitation that they click on which brings them to my calendar event page where they can add themselves as a guest or RSVP. When it comes time for my event I can invite my friends via email or iMessage and then link my Facebook profile so that my friends who are not on your phone book can see who’s coming and adjust their RSVPs accordingly.

Benefits of Integration of Zoom and macOS Calendar

Since I’ve started using Zoom and macOS Calendar together I have found that it has made scheduling events much easier for me. When I have a meeting with my friends in New York City I don’t need to ask them what time would be best for us to get together. Instead when we are talking on the phone or FaceTiming each other we can just say “let’s meet up this Saturday at 2pm” and they will look at their calendar and find an open spot on their calendar for us to meet up. Another benefit is that I can invite my friends to events via iMessage or email without having to make phone calls or looking up their physical address from Facebook Messenger. Also another benefit is that since we each have our own calendars we never have to worry about double booking because it will always show up on our phones if there is a conflict in our schedules.

Overall I’ve found that integrating Zoom and macOS Calendar has made scheduling events with my friends much easier than before. Before using these two programs together I would often have problems trying to maintain multiple calendars between my phone and computer and scheduling times with my friends was difficult because both parties had different calendars that didn’t sync with one another. However now that my friend has a Zoom account we can both view each other’s schedules at any time and schedule times to meet one another without having to worry about double booking ourselves at separate events because it shows up on our phones if there is a conflict in our schedules.
