The integration of WooCommerce and SMTP by Connect is very easy. In this article, I will explain how it can be done. I will also explain the benefits of this integration.
Integration of WooCommerce and SMTP by Connect is a three step process:
Step 1. Configuring SMTP by Connect Plugin for WooCommerce Integration
In order to make this integration work, you need to install SMTP by Connect plugin from WordPress Plugin Repository. Then go to Settings → SMTP by Connect under Plugin section. In this section you can configure SMTP by Connect for WooCommerce integration. In this section you need to enter the fplowing details:
SMTP Server – Enter the SMTP server that will be used for sending emails from your WordPress site. Note that if you are using a third party service like Gmail to send emails through your WordPress site then you do not need to enter the SMTP server. In that case you will need to check Use Gmail option. If you are using Gmail or any other third party service then leave SMTP server field blank. Your WordPress site will use the server settings provided by the third party service. Gmail typically uses port 465 for TLS encryption while port 587 is used for SSL encryption. So if you are using Gmail then enter both of them in SMTP server field. Otherwise it is recommended that you use SSL encryption for sending emails through your WordPress site. TLS/SSL Encryption – This option is used to secure your emails while sending them through SMTP server. This option is enabled by default if you are using Gmail or any other third party service. If you are using an external SMTP server then you need to disable it. You can re-enable it later if you want to change it back to Gmail while using an external server. Disable TLS/SSL Note. If you are using an external SMTP server then you need to disable TLS/SSL Encryption option because Gmail does not support TLS/SSL encryption when connecting through an external SMTP server. Authentication Mode -Select one of the Authentication mode options based on your requirements. Authentication mode options are explained below. No authentication . This option should be selected if either your SMTP server supports STARTTLS or if it does not require authentication at all (no username/password. Normal authentication . This option should be selected if your SMTP server requires normal authentication; i.e., with username/password (one for email address, one for password. It is highly recommended that you select this option if your SMTP server requires authentication at all. Advanced authentication . This option should be selected if your SMTP server requires advanced authentication; i.e., with username/password for email address; TLS/SSL; cert (with SHA1 fingerprint. for password. It is highly recommended that you select this option only if your SMTP server requires advanced authentication methods like TLS/SSL certificate, SHA1 fingerprint etc. TLS/SSL Mode -Select one of the TLS/SSL mode options based on your requirements. TLS/SSL modes are explained below. No TLS/SSL . This option should be selected if either your SMTP server does not require TLS/SSL or if your SMTP server does not support TLS/SSL at all (for example, some servers run by ISPs in third world countries do not support TLS/SSL. Normal TLS/SSL . This option should be selected if your SMTP server requires normal TLS/SSL; i.e., with no certificate specified in Authentication mode above. It is highly recommended that you select this option only if your SMTP server requires TLS/SSL encryption method but no certificate information (if you don’t know what certificate information is then select No TLS/SSL instead. Advanced TLS/SSL . This option should be selected if your SMTP server requires advanced TLS/SSL; i.e., with certificate specified in Authentication mode above (in PEM format. It is highly recommended that you select this option only if your SMTP server requires TLS/SSL encryption method with certificate information specified in PEM format (if you don’t know what certificate information is then select No TLS/SSL instead. Port -Enter the port that will be used for sending emails from your WordPress site. Note that standard port number for sending emails through SMTP server is 25 while port 465 is used for SSL encryption while port 587 is used for TLS encryption . It is highly recommended that you use port 587 for SSL encryption while port 465 is used for TLS encryption since it is more secure than normal SSL encryption while receiving emails through port 25 . Please note that even if you use port 25 , SSL encryption will still be used by default unless Disabled SSL option mentioned above has been enabled for this option. Disable SSL . Select yes if you do not want to use SSL encryption while sending emails through the selected port (port 465 or 587 . Otherwise select no . If you select no then SSL encryption will be disabled while sending emails through the selected port . Use GMail Method . Select yes if you want to send emails through GMail using STARTTLS method . Select no if you want to send emails through Gmail using IMAP method (which does not require STARTTLS . If you select yes then please make sure that Use Gmail option has been enabled in Authentication mode section described above . Use Specified Port . Select yes if you want to send emails through specified port number ( port 465 or 587 . instead of standard port number ( port 25 . Otherwise leave it as no . If you select yes then Custom Port Number field will appear where you need to enter the custom port number that will be used instead of standard port number . Make sure that Disable SSL option mentioned above has been disabled when using custom port number because disabling SSL encryption will add security risk to your WordPress site . Custom Port Number . Enter the custom port number in this field when Use Specified Port option has been enabled in Port section described above . Make sure that Disable SSL option mentioned above has been disabled when using custom port number because disabling SSL encryption will add security risk to your WordPress site . Enable Maximum Compatibility Mode . Select yes if you want to send emails through maximum compatibility mode . Select no if you want to send emails through normal compatibility mode . If you select yes then please make sure Use Specified Port option has been enabled in Port section described above because enabling maximum compatibility mode disables SSL encryption while sending emails through standard port number . Enable Trusted IPs . Select yes if you want to enable trusted IP addresses feature of SMTP by Connect. You must have this feature enabled for your WordPress site because otherwise there are chances that your email might be marked as spam by any public DNS provider due to wrong IP address configuration of certain hosting providers . Select no if you do not want this feature enabled on your WordPress site. If this feature has been enabled before , make sure to disable it on every previously configured IP address before enabling it again on new IP address . To enable trusted IPs on new IP address , click on Add New Trusted IP Address button below Trusted IPs table . Thereafter the fplowing page will appear where you need to enter all required information including IP address , description , expiration time , block reason , etc . Note that after entering required information on this page , click on Save Changes button at bottom of the page . Please note that Trusted IPs feature does not work
