Vimeo is a web-based platform for video sharing. It was founded in 2004 by two filmmakers who wanted to make it easier to upload and share videos online. Vimeo was one of the first sites to offer HD content where you can upload your videos in high definition. As of February 2017, Vimeo reported hours of video uploaded per week totaling more than 350,000 hours of video.
Drift is an online platform that allows users to capture, create, and share videos. Drift launched in 2013 as a mobile app that used front-facing cameras to capture video of the driver’s face while behind the wheel. Drift has since added new features including support for rear-facing cameras, integration with the GoPro camera line, and video editing tops for creating short video clips.
When users first log into Drift, they are prompted to select a source for their video. There are three options including “front facing”, “rear facing”, and “GoPro”. When choosing “rear facing” the user is then prompted to select between the rear-facing camera or rear-facing car recording. Once selected, the user will then be directed to use the smartphone app “Vine” to complete the process. The user must log into Vine using their Facebook account and then select a six second clip from the Vine library. Once selected, the user will then have the option to add a caption to the still image from their Vine account. The user then has the option to save their Vine video to their phone so they can continue the process in a quiet room with a stable internet connection. The user will then have the opportunity to take a photo within the Drift application so that they can choose a picture from their phone or take a new picture directly from their camera. Once both videos have been added, they can be combined together and shared with other people on Drift.
The integration of Vimeo and Drift provides many benefits for both companies including community growth, improved brand recognition, and increased sales. The integration allows Drift to increase its customer base by attracting a larger audience. Considering that Vimeo was founded in 2004 and had over 350,000 hours of video uploaded each week in 2016, a large number of customers are already members of Vimeo. The integration with Vimeo allows Drift to reach a very large audience who might not otherwise have been exposed to Drift before. More specifically, users that use Vine could be attracted to the ability to not only take pictures during their commute but to also select short videos from Vine to use within the Drift application for their commute. This integration gives Drift access to millions of potential customers through Vimeo. Another benefit is that it allows Drift to become more recognizable in the marketplace. By allowing its customers to use Vine videos within their Drift profile, it allows them to become more familiar with Drift than they would have otherwise been able to do without the integration. This integration also helps increase brand awareness because when customers create videos using Vine and post them on Drift they are able to reach out to users who might not otherwise have been exposed to them via social media such as Facebook or other social media websites. It also allows them access to many other different communities who might not normally use other forms of social media such as Pinterest or Snapchat for example. This integration also helps increase sales because it allows Drift to reach out and connect with individuals who might not otherwise have come across them on other websites such as Facebook or Twitter. For example, if someone creates a Vine video while driving and posts it on Drift it shows up on Facebook which means that his friends and family will see the video and hopefully share it with other friends and family thereby increasing sales.
