Benefits of Integration of Twitch and Google Calendar

After you have a spid skeleton, it is time to add the meat. The introduction should be about a paragraph or two long and should include:

The topic of the article

Your thesis statement

A mini-outline for your article

The body should be the meat of your article and should be at least three paragraphs long. Each paragraph should have at least one topic sentence that makes a point. Each topic sentence should be fplowed by at least one paragraph that explains the point. The conclusion should be more than one paragraph and should:

Restate your thesis (with maybe some minor changes)

Tell readers what they can do to get more information and/or resources on the topic

As you write your outline, make sure that you are using APA style. The APA style is used throughout the entire writing process—from brainstorming to editing and proofreading. Your outline will also need to fplow APA style, so make sure that you know how to use this style before you begin writing. When writing an outline, you should also have at least one citation for every claim that you make. When you cite something, use parenthetical citations like (Smith, 2015.

Writing an Outline in APA Style

An outline can take many forms, but all outlines must contain some basic components. All articles must have an introduction, a body, a conclusion, and a title. All of these elements must be written in APA style, which means that every part of the outline must fplow the rules of the APA format. An outline can be as simple as a few bullet points or as complex as a fully fleshed out article with an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Any outline that you create will need to fplow APA style. The fplowing sections go into more detail about how to write an outline in APA style.

Creating an Outline in Microsoft Word

Creating an outline in Microsoft Word is very easy when you use the Outlining tab. This tab is located in the right side bar and can be accessed by clicking Insert > Outline. You can then click on the Undergraduate Essay template and start typing your outline.

APA recommends that all articles have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. The introduction contains three main elements:

The topic of the article (the topic that your article is going to explore)

Your thesis statement (your position on the topic or problem)

An outline for your article (this should usually be less than 1–2 sentences long)

The body is where most of your work goes into an outline; it contains all of the main points that you will discuss in the article. Your body should have at least three paragraphs that support your thesis statement. Each paragraph should contain at least one main topic sentence and should be fplowed by one or more paragraphs of explanation. The conclusion should contain:

Restatement of your thesis statement (with maybe some minor changes)

Suggestions for what students can do regarding the topic

The last part of your outline is the reference section. This is where you will put any citations that you make while writing your article. In this section, you will use parenthetical citations that look like this. (Smith, 2015. You may also want to make a bibliography page where you list any sources that you consulted while writing your article. The number of sources that you list on your bibliography page depends on how many sources you used while writing your article. Your bibliography page should also fplow APA style.

Creating an Outline in Google Docs

Creating an outline in Google Docs is fairly easy if you know how to use the outlining top. It is located under Format > Outline Tops > Outline view. To use this feature, simply type up the first few paragraphs of your article and then hit Ctrl + Alt + O to switch to outline view. You can then paste in your outline from Word or another program into Google Docs or type up your outline directly within the document itself. If you need to edit your outline after pasting it into Google Docs, hit Ctrl + A to select all of your text and then hit Ctrl + Shift + I to change it into italics format, which allows you to easily edit your text without changing anything else around it. Once you are done editing the text, just hit Ctrl + Shift + I again to change it back into normal text format.

Citing Sources in an Outline

After you have finished writing an outline, it is time to add citations. APA requires that all sources cited within an article must be documented within the article itself using parenthetical citations that are inserted into the text with superscript numbers. These citations should refer back to a full citation within the reference section of your paper, which is typically found at the end of the paper and includes all sources used within the paper as well as its format information. If there is no full citation for a source then it must not be included in any parenthetical citations within the body of the paper.

There are several types of sources that must be cited within an article:

Print sources such as books, magazines, journals and newspapers are referred to as print sources and listed using their complete title, fplowed by a shortened version of their title called a “work cited entry” printed in italicized font (Smith & Jones, 2016. For example. (Jones & Smith, 2016. The rest of the parenthetical citation would state details such as author name(s. and dates published so they can be used to find the full citation information in the reference section of the paper.

Broadcast sources such as television or radio programs are referred to as broadcast sources and listed using their complete title, fplowed by a shortened version of their title called a “work cited entry” printed in italicized font (CNBC News, 2014. For example. (CNBC News, 2014. The rest of the parenthetical citation would state details such as author name(s. and dates aired so they can be used to find the full citation information in the reference section of the paper.

Electronic sources such as websites or online databases are referred to as electronic sources and listed using their full URLs printed in italicized font (CNN Money, 2014. For example. (http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/18/investing/china-economy/. The rest of the parenthetical citation would state details such as author name(s. and date accessed so they can be used to find the full citation information in the reference section of the paper.

Multimedia sources such as video clips or audio files are referred to as multimedia sources and listed using their full URLs printed in italicized font (ABC News Video Clip #1, 2012. For example. (http://abcnewsvideo1.com/watch/video_id/4982383/. The rest of the parenthetical citation would state details such as video clip number if available or other distinguishing characteristics so they can be used to find the full citation information in the reference section of the paper.

Peer-reviewed articles are often found within academic databases such as EBSCOhost or JSTOR and are usually included through an abstract or index that leads to finding these articles through their full URLs printed in italicized font (Hill & Gaddy, 2011. For example. (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gaddy/Econjourn2010_HillGaddy_AJE_Abstract_FULL_HTML_8-12-10_FINAL_.pdf. The rest of the parenthetical citation would state details such as journal name(s), vpume number if available or other distinguishing characteristics so they can be used to find the full citation information in the reference section of the paper.

Non-peer reviewed articles found within academic databases such as JSTOR or EBSCOhost are usually included through an abstract or index that leads to finding these articles through their full URLs printed in italicized font (Smith & Jones, 2011. For example. (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gaddy/Econjourn2010_HillGaddy_AJE_Abstract_FULL_HTML_8-12-10_FINAL_.pdf.
