Integration of Tumblr and Square

Tumblr was founded in 2007 by David Karp, a New Yorker. As a result of many blogs being shut down on the then-dominant blogging platform MySpace, Karp decided to create a new site that would be an open forum for any types of blogs. He initially called the site “David’s Space” but eventually changed the name to Tumblr. In their first few years, Tumblr was a small company with only three employees.

In May of this year, Yahoo purchased Tumblr for $1.1 billion. Over the past 7 years, Tumblr has grown from a simple blogging platform to a full-fledged social network. As of June, 2014, Tumblr had over 300 million blogs and more than 120 billion posts. It attracts more than 170 million visitors a month who view more than 2 billion pages on the site.

Square was founded in 2009 by Jack Dorsey, a co-founder of Twitter. In 2010, Square introduced their first product, which allowed individuals to accept credit card payments using a mobile device or computer. In 2013, Square announced support for small businesses to accept credit card payments through the use of Square Register, a stand-alone point-of-sale system. The company went public at $9 in November of last year.

Integration of Tumblr and Square

Tumblr and Square seem like they should not work together because they are service providers in different markets. However, the two companies have found ways to integrate their services in order to give their users more value for their money. For example, when you purchase something using Square, you can easily share it on your Tumblr blog. Also, if you use Tumblr’s link shortener (bitly), you can automatically share links to your Square purchases. Another example is when you want to make an online purchase with Square; you can do so directly from your Tumblr dashboard! Finally, if you use Square Cash, you can also send money directly to other Tumblr users.

Benefits of Integration of Tumblr and Square

The integration of Tumblr and Square makes sense because it allows both services to increase their revenue streams by providing additional value to their customers. Having the ability to post receipts for purchases allows Square to gain exposure among people who may be interested in using their products in the future. For instance, if I buy something with Square Cash at my local coffee shop, I can easily share that transaction on my Tumblr blog without having to take a picture of the receipt. The same applies vice versa. If I have used Square Cash before, I can easily share my previous transactions on my Tumblr blog without having to re-enter all of my information again. This integration allows both companies to expand their customer base without having to invest much time or money into marketing campaigns. This saves both companies lots of money while gaining exposure for both services.

This article showed how Tumblr and Square can benefit from each other’s products through integration. I personally use both services frequently and have noticed that they are both getting better over time. There are endless possibilities for what these companies may do in the future, but one thing is for sure. their services are getting better because of each other’s unique products and services.
