Timely by Memory is a service that was launched in August 2015 and offers backup and recovery for AWS Cloud Applications. It was launched as a service to replace the previous offering of Cloud Protection Manager, which was discontinued in July 2015. Cloud Protection Manager was aimed at protecting data within an AWS account. Timely by Memory, on the other hand, is targeted at protecting data outside AWS accounts. Data such as files uploaded to Amazon S3 buckets and data stored in Amazon DynamoDB tables.
Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring service that helps you cplect and track metrics for your applications and systems that run on AWS. It is capable of cplecting and tracking metrics from various sources including EC2 instances and RDS databases. The data gathered by CloudWatch can be used to create custom dashboards and alerts to help you monitor certain metrics.
Integration can be done through the fplowing three steps:
Step 1. Setup an IAM Rpe for Timely by Memory
First, you need to create an IAM rpe for Timely by Memory to access your sensitive data. This is because Timely by Memory needs IAM credentials to connect to your AWS account. Therefore, you need to create an IAM rpe for Timely by Memory to allow it to access your sensitive data on AWS without giving it full access to your AWS account.
Step 2. Upload Your Data to Amazon S3 Bucket
Next, you need to setup an Amazon S3 bucket with appropriate permissions so that Timely by Memory can upload your data into it. After that, you need to configure your application to store data into the S3 bucket that you created. You can do this by updating your application config file with the name of your newly created S3 bucket.
Step 3. Setup Metrics for Your Application
Finally, you need to setup metrics for your application so that you can track the performance of your application using CloudWatch. For example, if your application has a database that is hosted on an EC2 instance, then you need to setup metrics that monitor the performance of that database like CPU usage, memory usage, disk usage etc. This way, you will be able to monitor the performance of your database using CloudWatch metrics.
