The purpose of this article is to introduce the reader to the SugarCRM, a customer relationship management software. SugarCRM is used by businesses to manage their contacts with customers.
SugarCRM was founded by Michael Baum in 2005. The company’s headquarters are in San Francisco, California.
The company is privately held and has raised funding from Battery Ventures, Benchmark Capital, Meritech Capital Partners, New Enterprise Associates, Salesforce.com, SAP Ventures, Tenaya Capital, and Vipa Ventures.
In 2006, SugarCRM raised $5 million in its initial round of venture capital financing. In 2007, the company raised an additional $15 million in venture capital financing.
In August 2009, SugarCRM announced the completion of a third round of financing totaling $30 million. The total investment in the company at that time was $40 million. At this time also, Google CEO Eric Schmidt joined the board of directors.
In 2013, the company raised $30 million in series D financing and was valued at $500 million.
In 2014. the company closed a $50 million round of financing led by Insight Venture Partners and Warburg Pincus and grew to 280 employees.
In 2015. the company raised $100 million in additional venture capital.
In 2016. the company was named as one of Forbes’ “Hottest Private Companies in America” and rebranded as Sugar. The company also launched Sugar 7, its newest version of its platform.
In 2017. the company closed an $85 million Series D funding round and acquired social selling platform Vorsight and marketing automation platform Leadspace.
On February 2nd, 2018. the company announced that it had been acquired by salesforce.com for $130 million cash and approximately $10 million in salesforce.com stock; salesforce.com plans to use SugarCRM as part of its sales product suite.
Product Hunt is a website where users can find new products and services which they can share with other users on Product Hunt or rate those products and services. The site was created by Ryan Hoover think up Product Hunt as a way to share interesting products he had discovered online with friends and cpleagues. He launched Product Hunt as a beta website in November 2013. In January 2014 Product Hunt launched an iOS app with a feed of new products submitted by users each day, a list of top products curated by a team of curators, and a forum for discussion about products with the community. In February 2014 Product Hunt launched a Web app that lets users search for products and browse through products submitted by other users every day. In March 2014 Product Hunt launched a daily email digest with a list of new products added that day. In April 2014 Product Hunt launched communities where users could discuss topics related to specific industries or areas of interest within the main site. In October 2014 Product Hunt launched a job board where companies could post job listings for positions at startups funded through Y Combinator and AngelList. In February 2016 Product hunt announced launch of PH Founders Fund to invest in startups using the product hunt platform to launch their products.
