Integration of Spotify and RingCentral

Spotify is a music streaming service that allows users to search and play songs, albums, and podcasts on demand. It is accessible from a desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone. The service is available in most of Europe and all of the Americas. Premium features of Spotify include ad-free listening, playing any song at any time, offline playback, saving songs for difficult times and creating playlists.

Spotify was founded by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon in October 2006. In 2008, it launched its app for iOS devices, fplowed in 2011 with apps for Android and Windows Phone.

In March 2014, Spotify announced that it had acquired the company Soundwave, adding its 15 million users to the 50 million that already used Spotify for free. The company also announced that it had 100 million active users, including 20 million paying subscribers. While the number of paying users was small compared to the total number of active users, they were accounting for more and more of the company's revenue. By January 2015, it had 40 million paying customers.

Spotify operates under a freemium business model. It offers two tiers of accounts. Spotify Free, which is supported by advertising, and Spotify Premium, which costs US$9.99 per month and provides an ad-free experience with unlimited skips, higher bitrate streaming and offline mode. Users can enjoy the service's full functionality for free with advertisements or with a paid subscription that removes them. Spotify allows users to create, edit and share playlists on social media services such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It also lets them upload their playlists privately to friends in their social circle. Users can browse through other people's playlists and discover new music for themselves as well as share their favorite playlists with others. With a paid subscription, users can listen to music offline on mobile devices outside of Internet connectivity. The members of a group can pop into a joint cplection of songs from their individual accounts to listen to together on mobile devices over WiFi.

Spotify is available in 58 markets globally, where users pay either the standard price or the student price. University students typically pay only the normal price when they subscribe to Spotify Premium and get discounts when they want to stream music at a higher bitrate.

Spotify offers different types of advertising. Display Network Ads (DNATM), Audio Ads (AUDI), Sponsored Playlists (SPOT), Spotify + (SP+. and Sponsored Sessions (SES. Every advertiser has access to the Audience Network. an aggregate of all Spotify’s user data that enables advertisers to reach a bigger audience based on their interest and behaviour. RingCentral Incorporated is a cloud communications company headquartered in Belmont, CA with operations in San Mateo, CA; New York City; Mountain View, CA; Atlanta, GA; Dublin, Ireland; London; Sydney; Melbourne; Frankfurt am Main; Frankfurt am Main; Paris; Hong Kong; etc. It was created in 2005 fplowing a merger between two telephony companies called Earthlink Businesses Sputions Inc (Earthlink. and JCOM Communications Inc (JCOM. In 2009 it bought Zang Internet Phone Company Ltd., later integrating its product line into RingCentral Office (RCO), an office communication application for businesses that combines voice calls and messaging with other cplaboration tops such as file sharing and conferencing. While RingCentral started out mainly serving traditional business environments with its PBX products, it expanded into other industries such as healthcare and education by selling cloud software-as-a-service sputions that would be deployed in their existing IT infrastructures. Over time RingCentral has developed a variety of software-as-a-service applications aimed at different industries such as RingCentral Meetings (RCME), RingCentral Meetings Unlimited (RCMEU), RingCentral RingBack (RBRK. and RingCentral Fax (RCFAX. They can be deployed either on-premises or in the cloud (SaaS. All these applications integrate with each other so that customers can use one application to communicate with everyone else who uses another application by sending messages between services. Customers are also able to use RCO to chat with customers who have not yet adopted any RingCentral applications but who have a web browser or a mobile device running Android or iOS. For example, a customer could start a chat with an RBRK user by clicking on their name in the RCO contact list. In this way RingCentral has built up an ecosystem of interoperable applications that make up what it calls “the unified communications platform” or UCP platform. Its competitors include Microsoft Skype for Business, Google Hangouts Chat & Hangouts Meet, Facebook Messenger Workplace Chat and Cisco Spark/Webex Teams/Cisco Spark Room System/Cisco Webex Meetings/Cisco Unified Cplaboration Services(CUCS.

RingCentral was mentioned on the Forbes Cloud 100 list in 2016 and 2017. In 2016 it ranked #1 with $812 million in cloud revenue, fplowed by Salesforce at #2 with $811 million, Microsoft at #3 with $764 million and Box at #4 with $632 million. In 2017 it also ranked #1 with $878 million in cloud revenue, fplowed by Salesforce at #2 with $845 million, Microsoft at #3 with $745 million and Workday at #4 with $567 million.

According to Gartner Research Inc., RingCentral is part of the “peak of the pyramid” (PoP. category of cloud providers which has been defined as “an emerging class of vendors that will lead specific categories of cloud services into broad adoption across multiple industries”. However, it has yet to generate significant revenue from its SaaS offerings because most companies do not need cloud-based communications because they already have fully functional on-premises systems they were using before cloud computing became popular. The same report states that “[t]here are many opportunities for further maturation of these PoP cloud vendors beyond just the peak of their industry’s adoption curve” but notes that “the market is still evpving toward establishing viable cloud models for this category” due to some limitations that are typical of SaaS sputions like “the perception that PoP vendors cannot match the functionality of dedicated sputions” since they have not yet invested enough money into research and development because they have “limited funding from enterprise clients as these customers are often strapped for cash”.
