Integration of OpsGenie and Shippo

OpsGenie

OpsGenie is a SaaS-based alerting and on-call management platform that sends notifications via text messages, phone calls, emails & push notifications.

Shippo

Shippo is an API for shipping. Shippo offers an open source framework that allows users to integrate with any carrier. It’s also available as a SaaS product.

Integration of OpsGenie and Shippo

  • Add the OpsGenie Shipping Module to your Shippo account.
  • Integrate Shippo with OpsGenie for triggering alerts in case issues occur during the shipping process using the fplowing steps:

  • Create an OpsGenie account if you haven’t done so already. Click here to sign up for a free trial to test out these features or Click here to sign in if you have an existing account. b. Click on the gear icon at the top right corner of your OpsGenie account. c. Select “Configure Integrations” from the menu displayed.
  • Under the “Integration request source” section, select “Other”.
  • Select “Create new integration” from the dropdown menu next to “Webhook URL” box.
  • Enter https://www.shippo.com/webhook in the “Webhook URL” box and click “Save Integration”.
  • Click on the “Test connection” button and check the “Success” message which appears afterwards.
  • Click on the “Enable this integration” button and then click the “Add Integration” button.
  • Now we will map OpsGenie alerts to Shippo incidents by selecting “Incident type” and entering it in the corresponding box. Please note that the list of incident types will be different depending on where you are configuring your integration. For example, if you are integrating with GitHub, only the GitHub incident types will be listed; whereas if you are integrating with Heroku, both Heroku and GitHub incident types will be listed and so forth. Select “Alerts” and then click “Save Incident Type Mapping”.
  • If you want to configure additional alert actions such as escalation ppicies, response templates and so forth please refer to this article. https://help.opsgenie.com/hc/en-us/articles/204049336-OpsGenie-Action-Triggers-for-Alert-Rules-and-Notifications k. To test the integration, create a Shippo order and see what OpsGenie alerts are triggered in case of a shipping error. You can simulate a shipping error by adding a shipping address that does not exist or is invalid for example. l. After testing out the integration, make sure to add these two webhooks to your Shippo account. https://www.shippo.com/webhooks/v1/shipments https://www.shippo.com/webhooks/v1/shipment_handling/handling_error/handling_error_created 3. Generate a test alert in OpsGenie and see how it will appear in Shippo. a. Create a test alert in OpsGenie by going to Alert Rules page and clicking on New Rule under your alert rules list. b. Then set conditions that trigger your alert rule by entering one or more of these fields. Priority - Select High, Medium or Low from the drop-down list based on how critical this alert is for your business. The default value is High. Type - Select from among Email, SMS, Pushover, PagerDuty, HipChat, Slack, WebHook and Twilio in case you want to receive notifications through these means in addition to email and phone calls (which are enabled by default. The default value is Email . Owner - You can assign an owner for this Alert Rule if you would like someone else to respond to it when it triggers. A contact from your organization can be assigned as an owner for your Alert Rule either by their email address or username (which is part of their email address. Confirm Owner - Confirms ownership of Alert Rules by filling in the Confirm Owner form with information about yourself. We recommend adding yourself as an owner for every Alert Rule in every team that you belong to just in case the owner changes over time and you no longer get notifications about it anymore because of that change in ownership. A Confirm Owner form appears when you create a new Alert Rule or when you edit an existing one and you need to enter information about yourself such as your name and email address in order for your Confirm Owner form to be successfully submitted with no errors appearing in between for example for missing mandatory fields such as First Name or Last Name etc. Once you confirm ownership of an Alert Rule, every time it triggers, OpsGenie sends you a confirmation email so that you can confirm that it was indeed you who triggered this Alert Rule for example for a false alarm or an accidental one that was sent by mistake etc., by responding to that email with a message containing a key word such as “acknowledged” etc., which helps OpsGenie confirm that it was indeed you who triggered this particular Alert Rule and not someone else who might have been using your password or machine etc., stpen or hacked etc., since only you know what Confirm Owner forms look like for example and only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership etc., since that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership etc., since that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners because only you know what Confirm Owner forms look like etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership because that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership because that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership because that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership because that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners because only you know what Confirm Owner forms look like etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that ownership because that person would know what a Confirm Owner form looks like but not Vice Versa etc., so only you can confirm ownership of Alert Rules for which you are designated as owners etc., otherwise, if someone else were to trigger this Alert Rule falsely claiming ownership of it for example then you wouldn’t receive a Confirmation Email thanking you for confirming that
