Hi, readers! My name is Nick. I’ve been working in the mobile messaging industry for two years now. I’m currently a software engineer at OneSignal and Xendit.
OneSignal is a push notifications service for mobile apps. It helps developers of various types to create and send notifications to their users about new product updates, sales, and other events in real-time. The service is free for users with monthly active user (MAU. numbers less than 50,000. Additional tiers are available for more active users.
Xendit is a mobile messaging service that allows people to communicate instantly with each other regardless of where they are. It has a wide range of applications. support ticketing system, group chats, and even dating services. As a part of the service, Xendit provides a notification system with which users can receive instant messages from their contacts directly on their devices, even when no internet connection is available.
The idea to integrate OneSignal with Xendit was proposed by our CEO Ken White in early 2018, but we didn’t have time to develop it until mid-May, when our team started working on it full-time. The main question we had to answer was how to automatically push notifications from Xendit to customers’ devices. We had three options:
Use Apple Push Notifications Service (APNS. channels Use Google Cloud Messaging (GCM. Submit the requests manually
After considering all pros and cons, we decided that option 3 would be the best for our team and our customers. It was also an opportunity for us to learn about implementing iOS and Android apps from scratch as well as to create a communication channel between Xendit and OneSignal.
We integrated the existing OneSignal SDK into Xendit. This way, developers who use both services will benefit from additional opportunities such as push notification filtering; sending notifications on scheduled dates or during specific periods of time; adjusting the number of notifications sent per minute; and more.
We first introduced OneSignal into Xendit back in 2016, so OneSignal SDK integration wasn’t difficult at all. We had to make only a few adjustments to the code to fix the bugs that we discovered during testing.
Not only will developers benefit from using both services together, but the end users are likely to see some benefits as well. For example. if you use Xendit with a group chat application, you can receive a message on your device when you have a new message in the group chat without loading the app on your device. If you use a messenger app or any other kind of group chat application that supports OneSignal, you can also receive real-time messages without having to open the app on your device. These are just some examples of how developers can benefit from integrating OneSignal with Xendit.
Integration of OneSignal with Xendit allows developers to easily provide push notifications services for their mobile applications. By integrating the two services together, we are introducing a new way to implement real-time notifications without using third-party services. It will save developers money since they don’t need to pay extra money for these services. It will also help them provide better mobile experience for their customers because they don’t need to waste time creating and maintaining those services by themselves.
