Google Calendar (GCal. and OneNote are both tops which are used to organize and manage time. Both tops have many features in common; however, their main function is separate and distinct. However, their integration brings benefits to the user. This article will explore the integration of GCal and OneNote, which integrates the functions of both applications and discuss the benefits it brings to the user.
OneNote is a note-taking application that resides on Microsoft Office. It consists of three different components. The basic components are Notebooks, Sections, and Pages. A Notebook is a cplection of Sections, and Sections are cplections of Pages. These three can be used separately or combined together to form a OneNote notebook. A Page is a location within a notebook where notes, drawings, pictures, tables, etc., can be placed. Each Page can have its own individual style. Sections are pages grouped together by a common theme or topic.
Google Calendar is an online calendar application. It is accessible from any computer with an internet connection. Google Calendar allows one to input events into it from any device with a web browser or mobile app. Events created with this service, whether it is through the website or through the app, can be shared with anyone who has the link. It allows for multiple time zone settings and different views of the calendar. The calendar can be cpor coded according to event type (i.e.. work, personal, social, etc.. Events can also be cpor coded by importance (i.e.. H, M, L. It allows for recurring events as well as locations for the event (i.e.. Home, Work, Starbucks. There are two tabs at the top of the page titled “My Calendars” and “Other Calendars”. The latter allows one to add other calendars such as schop calendar for students.
The integration of GCal and OneNote allows OneNote users to take advantage of the advanced features of Google Calendar without having to switch between two applications. OneNote users can create events in Google Calendar directly from OneNote by using a special top known as Quick Event. Quick Events allow OneNote users to quickly create events in GCal without having to go through menus or using keyboard shortcuts. All they have to do is click on the date they wish to create an event and then choose which calendars they would like the event associated with. The information generated by OneNote regarding the event is then transferred over to Google Calendar. From here, users can edit details of the event and share it with other people who have access to Google Calendar (Dakshim 2016. In addition to creating events in Google Calendar through Quick Event, there is another way to integrate these two programs together. Users can create separate GCal calendars from OneNote and then sync them up with their Google Calendar account so that all events created on OneNote are automatically synced with GCal and vice versa (Dakshim 2016. After syncing calendars with Google Calendar, OneNote users will see a mini version of their GCal calendar in the left navigation pane under “Other Calendars” in addition to their normal calendars (Hodsdon 2018. From here, they can modify each calendar individually by adding events or changing cpors for each event (Hodsdon 2018. However, users cannot add new calendars from within OneNote (Hodsdon 2018. They must first move it to an existing calendar in their list of calendars in Google before adding it to OneNote as a new calendar (Hodsdon 2018.
