This paper will discuss how Nutshell (http://www.nutshell.com. and Shift4Shop (http://www.shift4shop.com. (now called 3dcart. were integrated in order to provide online stores with an all-encompassing spution to their ecommerce needs.
The first step toward integrating Nutshell and Shift4Shop (formerly 3dcart. was to set up the platform so that it could integrate with both shopping carts. This was done by setting up a website with a database for each shopping cart to access as well as a database for the Nutshell application. The databases were created using Microsoft Access which is the software that Nutshell uses. These databases can be easily accessed using ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity. which is software that is used to connect to databases from different applications.
Once the database platform was set up, we needed to create an application in Access that would allow us to link these databases. We used the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA. programming language and object-oriented programming to create the application, which allowed us to query the databases and retrieve the data necessary to display on the web page. Once this application was created, we wrote code that connected Nutshell and Shift4Shop (formerly 3dcart. We did this by writing code that ran queries against the database platforms and then displayed the results on separate pages. This created a single webpage that displayed information about products from both shopping carts; shoppers were able to see which products were available from Nutshell as well as Shift4Shop (formerly 3dcart.
Having one website with information about products from both shopping carts has many benefits for both companies. For example, it allows shoppers who are looking for products on either platform to see all of those products on a single site, thereby making it easier for them to find what they are looking for. In addition, it allows customers who have accounts with both shopping carts to have their accounts linked, thereby allowing them to purchase items from either shopping cart using their current account information. Finally, it allows the two companies to benefit from each other’s strengths, as people who want to use one of the companies services but not the other can still get content from both companies.
