Syncing MongoDB with Skype for Business is currently on our roadmap. Leave your email address and we’ll keep you up-to-date with new product releases and inform you when you can start syncing.

About MongoDB

MongoDB is an open-source document-based database management tool that stores data in JSON-like formats. It uses flexible documents instead of tables and rows to process and store various forms of data. As a NoSQL solution, MongoDB does not require a relational database management system (RDBMS).

About Skype for Business

Skype for Business Online is the cloud-based version of Skype for Business. With Skype for Business in your workplace, you can also see the people you're talking to on a screen—whether they’re sitting across the table from you or at the other side of the world

Integration of MongoDB and Skype for Business

MongoDB

MongoDB is a free and open source cross-platform document-oriented database program. MongoDB is written in C++. It is distributed under the BSD license. MongoDB has a very simple interface for programming, and it uses the non-standardized but popular JSON data interchange format for storage.

Skype for Business

Skype for Business (previously Microsoft Lync. was released on April 29, 2011, and is a unified communications platform that allows users to make video and voice calls, share screens, and send instant messages over the Internet. Skype for Business is available as both a cloud service and on-premises software. Cloud-based users of Skype for Business do not need to install any software at their premises and can access Skype for Business through a web browser. On-premises users are required to download the Skype for Business client for either Windows or Mac OS X to use the service.

Integration of MongoDB and Skype for Business

MongoDB stores data in JSON documents. JSON objects are similar to associative arrays in PHP or JavaScript. The JSON documents are written in scripts. Each script contains one or more documents. All documents have a unique BSON ObjectID. MongoDB uses replica sets to ensure data consistency among nodes in case of the failure of any node in the cluster. A replica set consists of multiple MongoDB servers that can be used together to create a highly available system. Every document in MongoDB must have an index type defining the fields in the document. The index type defines what fields are indexed in the document to make queries faster when retrieving data from the database. MongoDB supports many types of indexes including range indexes, compound indexes, regular expression indexes, text search indexes, geospatial indexes, full text indexes, and partial indexes for different data types.

Skype for Business provides various features such as basic instant messaging, audio and video calls, file transfer, screen sharing etc. To implement these features in Skype for Business, databases are used in the backend which store user profile information, contact lists, chat history etc., which are used by other applications like Skype for Business Web App or Skype for Business application installed on desktop computers. These databases are also used by the frontend services like the Skype for Business Web App to store its data. The frontend services may get data from the backend services via HTTP calls or via direct SQL statements if required. Any data changes made in one area of the system are immediately reflected in other areas of the system. Therefore, it’s important that all data changes made by frontend services are reflected in the underlying databases by making SQL statements directly against them instead of calling them via HTTP calls. This process increases availability because if any frontend service gets disconnected at any time, it can call the database again with its last known state and revert back to it without losing any data changes done since then.
