Microsoft To-Do is a chrome extension of the popular to-do list app, Wunderlist. Wunderlist was acquired by Microsoft from its original developer, 6Wunderkinder, in June, 2015. Microsoft To-Do was released on March 30th, 2017. It is a new and improved version of the original application. There are a few differences between the two applications that set them apart from each other. The main difference between the two apps is that Microsoft To-Do does not have a web interface. This allows users to view tasks, assign reminders, and create new lists straight from their browser. As opposed to the original application which had an email-based reminder system (if you added an email address to your to-do list, it would send you reminders via email.
Microsoft Outlook is an email application that has been updated multiple times throughout its development since it first appeared on the market in August of 1996. Although this may seem like a long time ago, the product has undergone significant changes since its first release. Since it has become an integrated feature of Windows 10, there are now ways for users to integrate Outlook with other Microsoft products such as Word, OneNote, and even Skype.
Initially, Microsoft To-Do was only available as a chrome extension that could be downloaded onto desktop or mobile devices. However, Microsoft has since updated the application so that it can also be accessed through Outlook.com. This integration allows users to seamlessly integrate their tasks into their Outlook email account. The way this integration works is simple. All you need to do is visit the Connected Services tab under My Profile once you have logged into your Microsoft To-Do account. From there, you will see all of your connected services listed. From here, you can drag and drop tasks into your Outlook calendar or drag them into your email. You can also drag them into any other connected service that you have linked up with your Microsoft To-Do account.
Although out of the box these features are mostly self-explanatory, they can be quite useful if you are trying to organize yourself better. For example, I have my to-do list linked up with my work email account, so I can drag tasks from my email directly into my to-do list where they will be associated with the right date and subject line for me to remember later.
The benefits of integrating Microsoft To-Do with Outlook are just as straightforward as installing the extension onto your browser. The ability to drag and drop tasks from one location onto another saves time when you are trying to organize your day. Instead of having to go back and forth between two different applications, all you have to do is drag tasks from one application onto another. Another benefit of using these applications together is the fact that you do not have to worry about missing out on important tasks because they are automatically synced between your devices whether they are mobile or desktop based.
