The topic that I chose for this article is macOS Calendar and Google Docs. This is because I wanted to test the integration of the two applications. I also wanted to know if one application was better than the other. I will be comparing macOS Calendar and Google Docs in terms of performance, accessibility, availability, cost, ease of use, manageability, security, and interoperability.
First of all, what is macOS Calendar? Apple explains it as fplows. “macOS Calendar includes a built-in time zone support, reminders, search capabilities, and Siri integration. You can view your calendar on your Mac or your iOS device” (Apple, 2017. macOS Calendar is an application that is available to users of macOS operating system. It is free to download and use. It allows users to schedule events and meetings on their schedule. Users can enter details such as the duration of a meeting and people invited to a meeting. Moreover, notifications can be configured for events and meetings that are entered into the calendar.
Second of all, what is Google Docs? Google defines it as fplows. “Google Docs gives you access to all your documents from anywhere, on any device, even if you lose internet connection” (Google, 2016. Google Docs is a cloud-based software suite which comprises of productivity tops such as word processor, spreadsheet editor, presentation topbox, form creator/editor, etc. It allows users to store their files in the cloud and thus access them from anywhere. It also allows users to share their documents with other users. However, only those users who have been granted permission to view them can do so. The files are shared using a link. A user has the option of sharing his/her files with some users but not others. In addition to this, Google Docs enables users to work offline on their documents as well as cplaborate on their documents with other users.
Third of all, what are the advantages of integrating macOS Calendar and Google Docs? Integrating macOS Calendar and Google Docs enables people to create and edit their documents directly from their calendars without having to open up another application or website. People can simply type or import their documents into their calendars and continue working on them from there. For example, a user who is working on a document can directly type it into his/her calendar and continue editing it from there.
Fourthly, what are the disadvantages of integrating macOS Calendar and Google Docs? Integrating macOS Calendar and Google Docs is disadvantageous because not everybody uses either macOS nor does everyone use Google Docs. So it may not be possible for most people to integrate their calendars with Google Docs. Moreover, sometimes these services do not work properly and cause problems for users. When this happens, they have no choice but to switch back to using one service at a time rather than using both services simultaneously.
Lastly, is there anything else that you would like to add? I think it would be good if we could create our own calendars and not just rely on those provided by Apple or Google. Then we could customize them according to our needs and preferences as well as share them with those we want to share them with. That way we would not have to worry about whether they would be compatible with those calendars offered by Apple or Google.
