Benefits of Integration of macOS Calendar and Amazon SQS

Introduction

Today, people have many options for keeping track of their schedules and activities. Most people use the calendars that are provided by macOS or iOS operating systems. Many people also use various cloud-based calendars such as Google Calendar or Office 365. These cloud-based calendars make it easy to track and share appointments, but they can be difficult to integrate with non-cloud based programs and services. As a result, many business owners and IT administrators find that it is simpler to work with hard copies of calendar information rather than trying to integrate with cloud-based calendars.

One possible spution for businesses that need to track events and appointments is to use a third-party service. A third-party service may offer better integration with existing programs and services, leaving less room for error and other problems that can occur when integrating with a cloud-based service. One example of this sort of service is Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. Amazon SQS is a service that lets you create a message queue for sending messages between different applications and devices. You can use Amazon SQS to integrate services such as Apple iCal and Microsoft Outlook. This makes it easier for you to see all your appointments in one place without having to enter data into multiple different calendars.

Integration of macOS Calendar and Amazon SQS

In this section, we will explore how you can use macOS Calendar to send event information to the Amazon SQS message queue. This allows users and administrators to view appointment information on any device that has access to the Amazon SQS message queue. This also allows them to add new appointments to the message queue using macOS Calendar, which in turn sends the appointment data to the users’ devices. For example, you may want to include a link to an Amazon SQS message queue in a meeting request email. Users who click the link can then see all the details about the meeting in their macOS Calendar app. They can then add the meeting to their Mac’s calendar or update their Outlook calendar by clicking on an appropriate button in the email message. In addition, you can insert links directly into macOS Calendar entries for added convenience. If you use an Amazon SQS message queue, you can also access your calendar from multiple devices such as your smartphone, tablet, laptop, and desktop computer.

Figure 1 shows how you can configure macOS Calendar to add appointments directly to an Amazon SQS message queue. Open the “Preferences” window and click on the “Accounts” tab. Then, click on the account name in the list of accounts on the left side of the window. The right side of the window shows the settings for that particular account. In this case, we are using the “Default” account because we want all events to be added to an Amazon SQS message queue. Click on “iCloud” under “Account Type” in the list on the left side of the window. The right side of the window shows your iCloud account settings. Click on “iCloud” and then click on “Advanced” at the bottom of the window. Click on “Use this account for…” and choose “Calendars” from the drop-down menu. Then, select “Save Changes” at the bottom of the window. Only items that are checked appear in your calendar, so you should check “Send new events to…” and type in a name for your Amazon SQS message queue (e.g., “sqs-idobonus-calendar”. Then, uncheck other options so that only events are sent to your Amazon SQS message queue (Figure 2. Click on “OK” at the bottom of the window to exit your preferences settings. Now you can add events directly to your Amazon SQS message queue using macOS Calendar just as you would with any other calendar service. You can also create a link in an email or other document that allows users who click on the link to add appointments directly from their macOS Calendar app (Figure 3. Users do not even have to have an Amazon SQS account themselves; all they have to do is click on the link in your email or document and then confirm that they want to add the appointment from their own calendar app.

The process to integrate macOS Calendar and Amazon SQS may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
