Integration of IMAP by Connect and Flipkart

After the launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, Flipkart and Snapdeal were two major players in the e-commerce market in India but with the launch of Amazon.com Inc., it was no longer a two-horse race. This is because Amazon.com Inc. has provided global e-commerce companies to enter the Indian market and hence, it has become a three-horse race.

As per reports of research analysts, Flipkart is still the largest e-commerce player in India with an estimated share of 35% of the market. Though both Amazon and Snapdeal are growing fast, they are still far behind Flipkart.

But that doesn’t mean that Flipkart is invincible. It faces tough competition from its competitors like Amazon and Snapdeal who have been expanding their operations aggressively. This is why Flipkart has announced its partnership with eBay and PayPal to take on its competitors.

eBay, an online marketplace, enables buyers and sellers to trade directly on the site. It had acquired Flipkart’s competitor Myntra in May 2014 for $330 million. The acquisition has helped eBay gain access to India’s booming online retail market.

PayPal is a leading online payment service provider. It provides integrated services for online payments and financing and money transfers through mobile devices, computers, and retailers. It acts as an electronic alternative to traditional paper-based methods like checks or cash.

The partnership between eBay and PayPal will allow buyers to pay for products using PayPal balance or credit cards while sellers will be able to sell their products using eBay’s Payflow system, which also supports payments through PayPal.

eBay will also provide Flipkart with customer service assistance, which would be valuable for Flipkart since it does not yet have a separate call center for its service support.

eBay expects this partnership between Flipkart and eBay to help expand their customer base and increase sales growth. Flipkart, on the other hand, expects this cplaboration to help them reach more customers and develop more robust supply chains.
