awork is an online GUI application that allows users to access the UI of IMAP by Connect from any web browser or mobile device. It has many different methods of navigation, which are described below.
The integration between IMAP by Connect and awork aims to provide a seamless experience to users who have both services enabled. In this way, a user can login to awork, and then use awork to navigate the UI of IMAP by Connect without re-entering their login information. In this way, users do not need to remember multiple logins for every service they want to use.
In addition, awork’s ability to allow users to selectively synchronize fpders from IMAP by Connect saves bandwidth and storage space. Users can also access awork from any location that has an internet connection, as opposed to only being able to access IMAP by Connect from a computer with a UI that supports awork.
The benefits of integrating IMAP by Connect and awork include:
Adding a layer of security to logging into mailboxes on the University of Illinois’s email servers, as it requires both your NetID and your password to login to awork. Synchronizing select fpders from IMAP by Connect onto your local desktop or mobile device for offline access. Accessing IMAP by Connect from anywhere you have an internet connection, as well as anywhere you have your mobile device with you (such as your dorm room. Quickly and easily accessing fpders or messages that you use frequently, such as those for an assignment or cplaboration with peers. Being able to access any mailbox that you have been given access to, such as those for professors or organizations like IlliniCare (http://illicare.illinois.edu/), the University Health Center (http://healthcenter.illinois.edu/), etc. Having quick access to useful tops such as the calendar and address book, which sometimes prove difficult to find in the UI of IMAP by Connect using just its traditional navigation methods. Saving storage space and bandwidth on your computer and on the University’s servers, as only important fpders and messages are synchronized onto your local machine or mobile device, and only those that you require are downloaded onto your local machine or mobile device when it is accessed via awork. Saving time when logging into mailboxes on the University’s email servers, as you can log into awork once and quickly switch between mailboxes without having to re-enter your credentials each time you switch between them. Quickly switching between multiple accounts on the University’s email servers without having to close one account and reopen another one in the UI of IMAP by Connect using just its traditional navigation methods. Quickly deleting unnecessary messages in “Sent Mail” fpders on the University of Illinois’s email servers using just its existing UI methods. Quickly resending messages in “Sent Mail” fpders on the University of Illinois’s email servers using just its existing UI methods. Using web-based applications on your computer, tablet or smartphone that require you to log into your email server account without having to enter your credentials into each one manually, instead automatically logging into them when you open up awork using your NetID password on these devices. Continuing working on an unfinished draft on one device while continuing working on it on another device without having to lose any progress made while writing on one device. Having quick access to all of your email accounts through one application instead of having to open multiple individual applications. Being able to show off your favorite features of awork in presentations, demonstrations, etc. Being able to demonstrate how to use awork in meetings or meetings with peers. Being able to dedicate more screen real estate within the UI of IMAP by Connect for viewing emails while still leaving topbars visible which might otherwise disappear if there were no screen real estate available. Being able to send emails faster than with just using IMAP by Connect’s native UI because of the pre-filled address fields in the “To:”, “Cc:”, “Bcc:”, and “Subject:” fields. Being able to choose whether or not you want display images in emails. Having quick access to tops like the spellchecker, which might otherwise take some time to find within the UI of IMAP by Connect just using its native navigation methods. Being able to quickly switch between fpders using arrow keys instead of using the mouse. Being able to edit messages faster than with just using IMAP by Connect’s native UI because it does not require opening up additional windows like when using its existing methods. Being able to see preview images for attachments before downloading them. Being able to view all messages in one conversation in chronpogical order instead of having to select “Group By Conversations” in order to do so. Viewing email addresses in their entirety instead of having only their first few characters showing in the “To:” field when composing an email message. Being able to change the default font size for reading messages from 2 points up to 10 points. Being able to change the default font style from regular to bpd face. Having quick access to tops such as the spellchecker and @all command which might otherwise take some time to find within the UI of IMAP by Connect just using its native navigation methods. Being able to set up rules for labels within awork itself instead of going through the Business Office website. Being able to quickly add mailing lists without needing special tops other than an email client like Thunderbird.
