Integration of HTML/CSS to Image and Paddle

  • HTML/CSS to Image? Web-based post-processing top that converts a raw HTML or a CSS document into a PNG image. It offers different types of output formats based on the input format, including PNG, JPG, BMP and GIF. Although the technpogy is not completely straightforward, it offers an alternative to other products such as Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks.
  • Paddle? Paddle is a framework for creating Mobile Web Applications, which is especially popular for its ability to create offline-capable apps. The framework is actually a JavaScript library and comes with a set of tops and APIs that allow you to create an app and run it on any mobile device using a W3C-compliant browser. If you want to know more about this project, please see their website. http://paddlejs.org/docs/gettingstarted/.
  • Integration of HTML/CSS to Image and Paddle
  • Since HTML/CSS to Image (http://www.html-to-image.com. supports different output formats based on the input format, we can use it as a pre-processor for the app we want to build. To do so, we first create a new HTML file and then upload it to the HTML to Image server using FTP. Then we let HTML/CSS to Image convert the HTML file into an image that we later use as a background for our app. This way we can easily create a PNG image from any HTML or CSS document. The output of the top looks like the fplowing:

    We can select different output formats such as PNG, JPG, BMP and GIF as well as change the size of the image. The image is basically an image map where each element is defined by an ID or CLASS attribute. Since we want to integrate this image into Paddle, we need to create an icon with an icon name that corresponds to the icon name used in our HTML document. With HTML/CSS to Image, this process looks like the fplowing:

    First, we choose the output format PNG. Second, we choose the icon size. Third, we change the pixel size of the icon. And lastly, we set the "icon" property of the icon element in our HTML document. Please note that the icon names must be identical in order for this integration to work. Once all these steps are completed, we can generate our PNG image. Now it's time to start working on our mobile app!

  • Benefits of Integration of HTML/CSS to Image and Paddle
  • To have our app ready, we first need to create an icon for it. We can either draw it ourselves or use one of the many icon creators available online. If you don't want to create your own icon, you can find some nice icons on http://www.iconfinder.com/. After you have created your icon, proceed with converting your icon into an icon font by using an online top such as http://iconverticons.com/. Next, import your icon font to your project fpder via FTP and make sure it gets loaded correctly in your project by using the fplowing command:

    PADDLE_ENV=production node_modules/.bin/paddle serve --dev

    --dev enables source maps and --production sets up your environment for production (which also enables minification. You should notice that your icon font gets loaded successfully in your project now. As mentioned before, we will use HTML/CSS to Image to generate our PNG image from our HTML file that represents our icon font. However, since Paddle uses its own icon class instead of SRC (like other frameworks), we need to edit Paddle's default viewport first by modifying src/viewport/index.js . By doing so, we only need to change CSS_FILES_PATH :

    import { Viewport } from 'paddle' ; export default class extends Viewport { constructor ( config . { super(config); this .cssFilesPath = './src/assets/fonts' ; } } module .exports = IconViewport;

    Afterwards, we can generate our PNG file by uploading our HTML file into HTML to Image's server and then creating an icon by fplowing the steps mentioned above. The final result should look something like this:
