Harvest is a very popular Android app for podcasts, audio, and video. It has over 1 million users. Harvest does not have an API but it does have an open source implementation. This allows developers to create their own interface to the app. Shippo is one of these methods of integration. You can download Shippo here.
Shippo is an API that connects Harvest with your podcast website. Shippo allows you to add your user base to Harvest. It also allows you to retrieve your Harvest user base. By using Shippo you can access your Harvest play counts, episodes listened to, overall stats, and much more. Shippo also allows you to integrate other services like Google Analytics, MailChimp, and AWeber.
Shippo integrates Harvest into your podcast website. It does this by adding a widget to your site. The widget shows the most recent episode from each of your feeds in a small box called the Feed Box. The Feed Box displays the title and cover art from the episode. It also displays a link to play the episode in Harvest if the user has it installed on their device. The Feed Box is customizable and can be turned on or off for each individual feed. Shippo also allows you to display episodes played on Harvest which is shown under the player contrps. You can retrieve all of these stats by using the Harvest API which we will discuss later in this article.
One benefit of integrating Shippo is that it starts harvesting your listeners automatically. If they are listening to your podcast on Shippo then they will be added to your listener base in Harvest. This allows you to acquire new listeners without any work. Another benefit of using Shippo is that it helps you bring together all of your listener data in one place. All of your data is synced through Shippo so you can use it on all platforms that you use to manage your podcast including WordPress, PodBean, etc. Another benefit of using Shippo is that it allows you to track the success of your podcast by allowing you to view the analytics from Harvest directly on your website. These metrics include number of downloads, number of listens, and number of new subscriptions received per day. You can also see how many plays each episode receives on average as well as play counts on each platform including iTunes and Stitcher. Using these metrics you can see where your listeners are listening from and what content they are most interested in. This is a great way to discover what content works best for your audience and how they prefer to listen to your podcast.
In this article we discussed two very popular podcast apps. Harvest and Shippo. We looked at how they are similar and how they differ, as well as their benefits in both integration and convenience for the podcaster. If you are looking for an app that has all of the features that Harvest offers but doesn’t want to take the time or pay the money to create an API then I recommend using Shippo. Both apps are free so there isn’t any reason not to try them out and see which one works best for your podcast!
The process to integrate Harvest and Shippo may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
