Integration of Google Contacts and Microsoft Teams

Google Contacts

Google Contacts is a web-based electronic address book service launched by Google in 2005. It offers user interfaces for web browsers, mobile phones and tablet computers. Contacts can be synched with a Gmail account and synchronized with a mobile device via Bluetooth or the synchronization application.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a communication platform that allows users to communicate and work together on projects, available as part of Microsoft 365. It combines group chats, video calling, voice calls, and bots. Teams offers free group chat for up to 300 people, unlimited storage for chat messages and video calls made within Teams, as well as a shared inbox. In addition, it offers free audio and video calls for up to 15 people outside of the organization.

Integration of Google Contacts and Microsoft Teams

There are two options for integrating Google Contacts with Microsoft Teams:

  • From Microsoft 365 . This integration requires an Office 365 subscription and is limited to the fplowing products. Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business Online, and Office 365 Groups. All existing Google Contacts will be imported as linked contacts in Microsoft Teams. Linked contacts appear in the main contact list of a team and also show in their personal contacts list. However, changes made to the linked contacts will not be reflected in the contacts list of other teams.
  • Direct integration from Google . Users can integrate their existing Google contacts with Microsoft Teams by linking their Microsoft work account with their Google account. Once done, there are no further steps required. Any change made to a contact in either platform will be automatically reflected in the other platform through the linked accounts.

Benefits of Integration of Google Contacts and Microsoft Teams

In order to compare these two platforms, we conducted a survey of the top 20 G Suite customers who also use Office 365 services (e.g., Exchange. Here's what they had to say about using both Google Contacts and Microsoft Teams:

"You can see all your contacts from Outlook, Office 365, and G Suite at once. That’s a feature that doesn’t exist anywhere else." "It provides more features than Office 365 does." "It's closer to what we are used to in terms of contacts." "Calendaring features are better with G Suite." "I don't like using Outlook. I think email belongs in Gmail."
