Integration of GitHub and Shopify

GitHub, formerly known as and stylized as github, is a web-based hosting service for software development projects that use the Git revision contrp system. It is mostly used for computer code.

GitHub offers both paid plans for private repositories and free accounts for open source projects. On 9 September 2011, GitHub announced it had raised US$100 million in Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz. On 1 February 2012, GitHub announced $100 million in Series B funding from Andreessen Horowitz and Nine Venture Capital. On 10 March 2014, GitHub announced $250 million in Series C funding led by Sequoia Capital.

On 1 June 2015, GitHub announced that it was acquiring the private code repository platform Gitorious.

On 24 June 2018, Microsoft announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire GitHub for $7.5 billion. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the year.

Shopify is a Canadian e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, that develops computer software used by online retailers and retail point-of-sale systems. The company also runs a large multi-vendor e-commerce platform for online retailers called Shopify Plus.

The company was founded by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake after the launch of their first product, Shopify, a snowboard retailing website for Lütke’s Montreal-based snowboard shop Snowdevil. The original name for the software was Snowdevil Commerce, but due to trademark issues with Snowdevil’s suppliers, the name was changed to Shopify.

In April 2009, Shopify launched an app store, which contained apps for Shopify merchants to customize their stores. In May 2010, Shopify launched its iOS app, allowing users to browse products from their iPhone or iPod Touch.
