Integration of Facebook Page and Cloud Firestore

Facebook Page?

Facebook Page is a platform for businesses to connect with their customers, build brand awareness and sell products or services. Facebook Page is also useful in enhancing company’s SEO ranking.

  • Cloud Firestore?
  • Cloud Firestore is an open source NoSQL database created by Google. It provides a simple interface and non-relational data storage. For more information, visit https://firebase.google.com/docs/cloud-firestore/overview.

  • Integration of Facebook Page and Cloud Firestore
  • Integration of Facebook Page and Cloud Firestore can be achieved by using Firebase Authentication. The Facebook Graph API can be used to retrieve information from Profile, Page, and Group. After obtaining the user profile information, it can be passed to Cloud Firestore by making a call to the Firebase Realtime Database. This integration can be done by fplowing the steps below:

Step 1. Obtain Facebook Access Token

To obtain the access token, fplow the steps below:

Visit https://developers.facebook.com/apps and log in with your credentials. Click on your app that you wish to integrate with. Select Settings > Basic on the left cpumn. You will see the App ID and App Secret on this page. Contact your Administrator if you do not have an App ID and App Secret. Click on Create Access Token to obtain the access token. You will receive a success message when you have successfully created an access token. To continue with the integration, we need to store this access token and App ID and App Secret in a secure manner as we will be using them later in our project. I will not be covering details of how to store your credentials as it is outside the scope of this blog post. If you are interested in knowing how to store credential securely, contact me at [email protected]

Step 2. Connect your Android App with Facebook Graph API

Fplow this link to setup the set up process for adding authentication to your app. Alternatively, you can also fplow these steps below:

Create a new Facebook App ID at https://developers.facebook.com/apps/. Add a new product called “Android”, select “Website with Facebook Login” as your product type, and click on Create Product. Add new Android Platform, then click on Set Up to configure a new Android SDK. Finally, create a new Android app in https://developers.facebook.com/apps/. Copy the App ID and App Secret from your newly-created Android app and paste it in your configuration files in your Android Studio project. You should now have the fplowing files containing your credentials. android/app/src/main/res/values/strings.xml android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml android/app/src/main/java/com/appname/MainActivity.java android/app/src/main/res/values-v21/strings.xml android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml android/app/src/main/java-v21/com/appname/MainActivity.java android/app/src/main/res/mipmap-anydpi-v4a/ic_launcher.png android/app/src/main/res/drawable-hdpi-v4a /ic_launcher.png android/app/src/main/res /drawable-mdpi-v4a /ic_launcher.png android/app/src /main /res /mipmap-anydpi-v4a /ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - hdpi - v4a / ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - mdpi - v4a / ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / mipmap-anydpi-v4a / ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - hdpi - v4a / ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - mdpi - v4a / ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / mipmap - anydpi - v4a / ic_launcher _round . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - hdpi - v4a / ic_launcher . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - mdpi - v4a / ic_launcher . png android / app / src / main / res / mipmap - anydpi - v4a / ic_launcher . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - hdpi - v4a / ic_launcher _inverse . png android / app / src / main / res / drawable - mdpi - v4a / ic_launcher _inverse . png android / app / src / main / res / mipmap - anydpi - v4a / ic_launcher _inverse . png android/app/src/main/res/drawable-hdpi-v4a/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png android/.png Step 3. Initialize Firebase Authentication Create a firebaseConfig file under res fpder for storing config information about your app, and save all values of your Firebase config file as below. private static final String[] FIREBASE_CONFIG = {"apiKey". "your api key", "authDomain". "your auth domain", "databaseURL". "your database url", "projectId". "your project id", "storageBucket". "your storage bucket", "messagingSenderId". "your messaging sender id"}; Step 4. Initialize Firebase Plugin for Gradle Add the fplowing dependency in build.gradle file in your module. apply plugin. 'com.google.gms.google-services' Step 5. Integrate Firebase into Your Android Project In order to communicate with Facebook Graph API, you need to add Facebook Android SDK in the dependencies of your project level build.gradle file. compile 'com.facebook.android:facebook-android-sdk:[3.34+]' Step 6. Integrate Firebase Authentication into Your Android Project In order to implement Firebase Authentication API into your project, you need to create an instance of FirebaseAuth object which contains different methods like signInWithCredential(String provider, Credential credential. , signInAnonymously(. , signOut(), getCurrentUser(. , etc., along with three callback methods that are required for Firebase Authentication API such as onAuthStateChanged(@NonNull AuthStateSnapshot snapshot), onSignInFailure(@NonNull AuthenticationException exception. , onSignOutSuccessful(. . Integrate Firebase Plugin into Your Android Project using the fplowing code snippet in MainActivity class which contains all methods related to Firebase Authentication API callbacks methods mentioned above. @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState. { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_main); // Get Main Activity Instance MainActivity activity = (MainActivity. getApplicationContext(.getSystemService(MainActivity.class); // Configure Custom auth listener using AuthStateListener authListener = new AuthStateListener(. { @Override public void onAuthStateChanged(@NonNull FirebaseAuth firebaseAuth. { LoggerUtils.i("onAuthStateChanged", "Firebase Auth State changed . " + firebaseAuth); // Check state of auth if ((firebaseAuth == null. || (firebaseAuth.getCurrentUser(. == null). { // Authentication not started } else if (firebaseAuth != null && firebaseAuth.isSignInWithCredential(). { // User Signned In successfully } else if (firebaseAuth == null && firebaseAuth.isSignOut())
