  • Sign up for an account on Twilio
  • Create a new Twilio number
  • Add the number to your Facebook page
  • Open Facebook Lead Ads Power Editor
  • Enter the lead generation form URL of your website in the “Phone Number” field of your Facebook Lead Ads ad set.
  • Copy the “URL” of the Facebook Lead Ads ad set to create a new webhook.
  • Run a test SMS message to make sure you get confirmation of the webhook.
  • Check the results of the test message through the Facebook Lead Ads dashboard.
  • Send a test message to your Twilio number from inside your Facebook Lead Ads account. You should receive an automated text message with the destination URL of your landing page. If it doesn’t work, check that you have entered all of your information correctly, including the webhook.
  • View the results of the test message through Facebook Lead Ads. They should be associated with the appropriate customer in your Facebook Lead Ads account. If they are not, you may need to confirm again that your lead is associated with this phone number in your Facebook Lead Ads account so that it is correctly recorded when customers send text messages to your Twilio number.
  • This step isn’t required, but I like to create a new tracking pixel in Google Analytics that is associated with my Facebook Lead Ads account for this number. It makes it easy to identify where traffic is coming from when using filters in Google Analytics. Go to Account > Property > Tracking Info > Tracking Code > New Tracking Code > Tracked URL Builder. Use this top to create a new URL with /trk/fbads/. (If you don’t want to do this step, you can still filter on Source in Google Analytics.)
  • Create the code to associate with the tracking pixel in Google Analytics in your header file in your website.
