Etsy.com is a website that connects sellers and buyers of handmade goods. The site was founded in 2005, and since then has grown to more than 1.7 million active sellers, 20 million active buyers, and 35 million items for sale. The mission of the site is “to re-imagine commerce in ways that build a more fulfilling and lasting world” (“About Us”. It is the world’s leading marketplace for unique goods.
Vend is a software application that lets small retailers manage their inventory. It allows them to do so from a single point of access, instead of having to use multiple systems to do so. Vend has been used by businesses as large as Timberland and as small as an equestrian store. Vend aims to make the lives of small business owners easier.
Etsy already has integration with Vend. Vend provides the technpogy and hardware that runs the Etsy POS system. The POS system allows Etsy to sell products directly in person at craft fairs, pop-up shops, and boutiques. Vend also provides an app that allows Etsy sellers to manage their inventory while they are on the go (“Etsy + Vend”. Vend even has a version of its software called Vend for Retailers, which is specifically designed for small and medium-sized retailers like those on Etsy (“Vend for Retailers”. These integrations between Etsy and Vend allow for better management of inventory by Etsy sellers, which should lead to more sales. An integrated system means less hassle for sellers, lower cost, and more sales for Etsy overall.
An integrated system would provide many benefits for Etsy sellers. They will be able to create an account on Etsy and then use that same account to download the Vend app. This will make managing one’s inventory much easier because it will not require selling through multiple channels. Being able to manage one’s inventory from a single source will lower costs significantly. It will also make sales easier because customers can see all the inventory from one place, rather than having to search through multiple sites. Customers will be able to view all available products in real time, which will make it easier to order items they want immediately. An integrated system will make it easier for Etsy sellers to keep track of their profits because they will be able to view orders and sales in real time, right from their phone. Being able to view orders in real time will enable them to start working on creating more products for new orders as soon as possible without having to wait until the next day to find out what needs to be created to fulfill the next order (“Help Center”. Vend is also aiming to provide integration with other platforms like Shopify and Amazon. This would give sellers even more options for selling their products.
I have provided evidence that Etsy is going through some growing pains and needs the help of another company to stay relevant in its industry. I have also shown how integration of Etsy with another company could help it to do so. Integrating with Vend would benefit both companies greatly. For example, it would allow eBay users who use Vend to sell their products on Etsy as well as eBay. It would provide many benefits like decreased cost and increased speed of production; these benefits would ultimately lead to more sales for both companies invpved. The integration itself seems simple enough, so I think if both companies agreed on it, they could begin integrating fairly quickly.
