    EC2 stands for Elastic Compute Cloud, which is a web service offered by AWS for cloud computing. It allows users to rent virtual computers that are based on Linux-based operating system. You can start with a single virtual machine or several instances at once. On-Demand Instances, Spot Instances and Dedicated Hosts.

    On-Demand Instances are virtual machines that you can rent on an hourly basis or monthly basis. You can pay upfront or pay as you go. If you opt for hourly billing, your virtual machine will run until the hour limit is reached or until your usage exceeds the included free hours for that month. If you choose monthly billing, your virtual machine will run continuously unless you stop it or exceed the free hours that are offered for that month. You can stop or restart your virtual machines at any time during the month. If you stop your virtual machine for more than an hour, it will be stopped and deactivated. But if you need it again before the end of the same month, you can reactivate it within 90 days after deactivation.

    Spot Instances are special types of instances that are cheaper than regular On-Demand Instances because they are not guaranteed to be available when you need them. Therefore, you should use them only if you know how to handle availability risk. It means that if your virtual machine is not available due to an unforeseen event (such as outage or maintenance), you will be charged at the market price of that instance type for that particular Availability Zone at the time of failure. In other words, if your virtual machine is not available when you need it most because of a problem with AWS’s infrastructure, then it will be charged at the full price of that instance type in that Availability Zone.

    Dedicated Hosts are physical machines that you can purchase from AWS directly. They include different types of hardware such as micro EC2 instances and high-memory instances. Additionally, they include a number of reserved IP addresses and a private networking interface with a dedicated IP address range from /30 to /16 per instance.
