Integration of DocuSign and Wave

DocuSign?

DocuSign is an electronic signature system used in business for securely signing documents.

The company was founded in 2003 by Robert G. Stephens, Jon A. Gilbert, and Eric J. Blumberg. It was first named DocuSign, Inc. and changed its name to DocuSign, Inc. in March 2009. The product was released in 2005.

DocuSign allows users to sign, send, receive, and track documents on the Internet or via a mobile device. DocuSign can be used across the world. Using DocuSign, users can sign any document online, from any computer, tablet or mobile phone.

DocuSign provides a secure method of signing documents electronically while ensuring that the information sent is also protected. An individual’s signature is encrypted before it is sent and a secure certificate is used to validate the identity of the sender. DocuSign can be used with Microsoft Office applications as well as non-Microsoft applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Apple iWork Pages, and Google Docs. DocuSign also has APIs for third-party developers to use in their software.

DocuSign received $7 million in venture funding from Mohr Davidow Ventures and InterWest Partners in February 2004 and a $22 million Series B round from Mohr Davidow Ventures and InterWest Partners in June 2006. In May 2007, DocuSign raised $30 million in funding from Intel Capital and Mohr Davidow Ventures, including funds for foreign expansion, bringing the total amount raised to $55 million. In March 2009, DocuSign raised $15 million more in funding from Intel Capital and existing investors, bringing the total amount raised to $75 million. In 2010, DocuSign raised an additional $40 million in funding from Gpdman Sachs to expand its operations into Europe and Asia.

In August 2011, DocuSign acquired Proofpoint Inc., a provider of cloud-based security services for email communications. Proofpoint was used to help secure email communications between parties that have not yet integrated with DocuSign.

As of December 2013, DocuSign had more than 100 employees at its San Francisco headquarters and over 1,300 around the world. In April 2014, DocuSign announced it had reached 2 million monthly active users of its e-signature platform.

In February 2016, DocuSign agreed to acquire e-signature rival EchoSign for $1 billion.

Wave?

Wave is a cplaboration top that is owned by Google but available through an open API for others to use. Wave was designed by Lars Rasmussen and his brother Jens Rasmussen (who themselves were early employees of Google. along with two other early Google engineers who all met while working on another project for Google called Google Maps. It was launched on September 30, 2009 as an invitation-only preview, with a full public launch on May 21, 2010. On April 26, 2012 Google announced that it would discontinue support for Wave in favor of other products such as Google Drive and Google Sites. All existing Waves would be deleted on May 30, 2012 and Wave would no longer be available to new users after June 30, 2012. Since then a community-driven project named OpenWave has arisen that continues development of the platform under the Apache License version 2.0.
