Chatter is a social network for internal use only. It was built by Salesforce to encourage cplaboration, knowledge sharing and to connect employees. This network provides various features including:

  • Newsfeed – this is a place where information about the company and its employees are posted. For example, the announcement of new hires, news about new products, sale promotions and more.
  • Connections – this feature allows users to connect with each other to share stories and experiences.
  • Comments – this feature allows users to leave comments on any post or story in the newsfeed.
  • Subscription – this is an option that allows users to select which types of information they want to receive. They can choose between “News”, “Feeds” and “Alerts”.
  • Posting – users can post their own stories and comments in the newsfeed.
  • Email Subscriptions – users can subscribe to get news via email.

SMS Alert

SMS Alert is an application that sends an alert via text message. The alert contains information such as the name of the person who posts the story or comment, the name of the newsfeed or post where the story or comment was posted, the number of views and clicks of the story or comment and more. To be able to use this application, a user must configure the app to send messages via his/her own registered mobile number. When configuring the app, a business administrator can decide whether he/she wants to add a single mobile number or a list of mobile numbers. The admin can also decide how many SMS messages should be sent per day. Some examples of when one may want to use this feature include:

  • To send an alert when an employee has been promoted.
  • To send an alert when an employee has created a new account on Salesforce.com.
