Integration of Braintree and Shopify
(A. Braintree
Braintree is an online payment gateway service based in San Francisco, California. It is used by eCommerce merchants to accept credit card, debit card, and Automated Clearing House payments on their websites. The service was created by Bryan Johnson, Alan Patricof, Bill Ready, and Max Levchin.
Braintree was acquired by eBay in September 2013 for $800 million. As of 2017 it has processed more than $15 billion in mobile and web payments. In March 2017, PayPal announced that the company would be rebranding as "PayPal" and integrating Braintree's services into its platform.
Braintree provides fraud protection through Risk Intelligence, a system that empowers merchants to separate legitimate transactions from fraudulent ones. They provide a PCI-compliant gateway; a set of APIs that allow developers to build custom checkout experiences; and tops for managing subscriptions. The platform also supports Apple Pay.
(B. Shopify
Shopify is an e-commerce platform used to power online stores and retail point of sale systems. It has over 375,000 merchants using its platform.[1] Shopify was founded in 2004[2] by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake after Lütke's prior e-commerce business had reached $1 million in sales.[3] It is headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario.[4]
The company's initial product was ShopifyStore.com, a hosted e-commerce store builder that enabled merchants to set up their own online stores without requiring technical knowledge.[5][6] Merchants can use the software to design their storefronts using themes,[7][8] and add products using a simple interface. The service includes an inventory management system, which automatically updates stock based on sales,[9] and uses drop shipping to ship products directly from manufacturers to consumers.[10] They also offer Shopify Payments, a payment processing service that allows merchants to cplect money through credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, PayPal and Interac Online.[11] Shopify began accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment in January 2014.[12]
In April 2016, Shopify launched an app platform for its merchants.[13] The company introduced Shopify Capital in May 2016,[14] an asset-based lending program that offers merchants cash advances of up to $100,000 to help fund inventory.[15] In October 2016, Shopify partnered with Amazon to give Amazon sellers access to Shopify's customer base.[16]
