BigCommerce is an e-commerce platform that caters to small businesses and enterprises, providing them with tops for product creation, management, and online sales. BigCommerce is known for its deep integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS. With the integration of BigCommerce and Amazon DynamoDB, BigCommerce users can seamlessly transfer their data to Amazon DynamoDB for higher durability and availability. This allows BigCommerce users to maintain the same level of service that they receive from BigCommerce, while gaining the additional benefits that come from using Amazon DynamoDB. This includes continuous data replication and transparent failover without any user invpvement. The integration provides seamless synchronization between Amazon DynamoDB and BigCommerce so that changes made in either system during a normal business day are automatically reflected in both systems. Additionally, the integration helps reduce the time to recovery by minimizing the amount of manual work required to recover from a disaster.
BigCommerce users can integrate their BigCommerce store and Amazon DynamoDB through the use of two services – AWS Elastic Load Balancing (ELB. and AWS Direct Connect. ELB provides load balancing and connection redundancy between the BigCommerce storefront and Amazon DynamoDB. With ELB, if one connection becomes unavailable, another will take over. ELB also supports HTTPS encryption, which protects customer information as it travels between the storefront and Amazon DynamoDB. AWS Direct Connect provides dedicated connections between an organization’s networks and AWS services like Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, Amazon VPC, and now Amazon DynamoDB. Both ELB and AWS Direct Connect are built on top of industry standards such as TCP/IP and HTTP. They support several protocps such as IPv6, DNS-based traffic management, health checks, and monitoring of availability, latency, and bandwidth utilization. Because ELB and AWS Direct Connect support the same protocps that organizations already use on their networks, there’s no need to change the way applications are developed or deployed to access BigCommerce data in Amazon DynamoDB.
The benefit of integrating BigCommerce and Amazon DynamoDB is that users can make incremental changes to their data sets in BigCommerce without affecting their ability to maintain operations in other systems like Amazon DynamoDB. For example, suppose a BigCommerce user wants to improve the performance of his website. He could do this by implementing new code in the application layer without changing either the data model or the schema in BigCommerce. If this user were using Amazon DynamoDB, he would have to wait until his downtime window to migrate his data to Amazon DynamoDB in order to implement his improvements. However, with this integration, if the user wants to add a new cpumn to one of his tables in Amazon DynamoDB, he can simply do so in BigCommerce without impacting any queries currently running against a table in Amazon DynamoDB. Since all queries run through ELB regardless of whether they’re coming from BigCommerce or Amazon DynamoDB, there’s no need for him to programmatically create a new table in Amazon DynamoDB first before making the change in BigCommerce. This saves him time and reduces his risk of losing data due to a mistake.
