Integration of Arthur Online and BulkGate

Arthur Online

Arthur Online (AO. is an online reservation system at the Wayne State University (WSU. Libraries by which users can reserve books for in-library use. Users log into AO using their WSU username and password, search among the many different libraries in the AO system, and reserve books that are held in any of the libraries.

BulkGate

BulkGate (BG. is a web service that allows users to check the status of their book requests in bulk—all at once. BG is built around the same library catalogs as Arthur Online, so it allows users to see which libraries have the book they want, but it also allows them to check if their request has been filled by any of those libraries in bulk. Users can check in either in-library or in-store status at once or separately, depending on how they want to look at their data.

Integration of Arthur Online and BulkGate

In order to get access to both Arthur Online and BulkGate, users need to know where their book is located. In the past, finding out where a book was could be a difficult task. The Library Catalogs section of the WSU Libraries website was a good place to start, but it did not give a very complete picture. A user would often have to go through several different steps to get a location. First, a user would search for their book in the main catalog. If the book was not found there, the user would have to search for it in each of the individual libraries’ catalogs. Finally, if the book was not found in the individual catalogs either, the user would have to call each library individually to find out if they had the book. This was a time consuming and confusing process that could be very frustrating for a busy person who just wants to learn where a book is located.

With Arthur Online and BulkGate, a user only needs to search for their book once because all libraries invpved with AO and BG are automatically included in a search for a book at once. This means that a user does not need to know what library has the book they want; all they need to know is the title of the book and its author or subject matter. After this initial search, users can click on the “Reserve” button next to any book listed, and it will take them right to AO. It will also show them exactly where the book is located and how many copies are available.

Benefits of Integration of Arthur Online and BulkGate

From an end-user standpoint, there are three main benefits of integration. 1. ease of use, 2. gaining access to more information about a desired item, and 3. faster searching. There are also additional benefits when it comes to staff, such as greater efficiency when processing reserves and inventory management. The fplowing sections describe these benefits in more detail.

  • Ease of Use

The integration between Arthur Online and BulkGate allows users to see where their requested items are located at once. There is no need for users to go through multiple catalog searches across different systems before they can figure out where their items are located in physical space. Furthermore, creating an account with one system automatically registers them with all other systems invpved in integration without users having to enter any further information. This makes it very easy for new users to sign up for one system without having to worry about registration processes on other platforms. New users just have to sign up once, and they have access to every system that integrates with Arthur Online or BulkGate. This also makes it easier for users who are at work or traveling to access information about their reserves because they do not have to wait for an email from someone else confirming whether their item is available or not at another library. They can simply go online themselves and find out immediately. This saves time and ensures that users are aware of what is going on with their items right away.

  • Information About Desired Items

When a user logs into AO or BG, they are presented with information about all of their requested items at once. They can find out immediately if their book is on first or second floor of any library on campus—even if they do not know where it is physically located at first glance. They can also see if there are multiple copies available at any particular library if they are concerned about losing an item due to lack of availability at another library on campus. They can even check if there are other copies available at other campuses if they are trying to see if another library will help them fill their reserve request. This saves users time because they do not have to write down multiple locations or check with multiple people just to know where their book is physically located. Using this system saves time by eliminating redundant work—for both staff and users—and reduces confusion about where an item is located because all relevant libraries are integrated into one search system with one set of results per item. These results give users relevant information about their items without asking them to enter any additional information themselves—they just need to search once and click once to find out everything they need to know about their reserve request. This cuts down on delays caused by multiple searches or by calling multiple libraries individually for information about an item’s location without knowing which libraries actually carry that item in stock. It also saves staff time since they do not have to track down books individually for users, nor do they have to wait for multiple calls from patrons who want more information about an item’s location before taking action on fulfilling that reserve request. This allows staff members to spend less time answering questions about an item’s location and more time helping patrons by fulfilling their reserve requests faster than ever before. This gives library staff more time to focus on providing quality customer service instead of wasting time trying to track down books for patrons who do not care enough about getting what they want as quickly as possible for whatever reason—whether it be personal preference or laziness or something else entirely—without putting forth any effort themselves to fulfill a request. Users do not have to waste time checking with multiple libraries individually anymore either because there is no need for them to do so since all relevant libraries are included in one search from one location from one point of view—the point of view of the patron who wants a copy of that book as quickly as possible without wasting anyone else’s time along the way. In short, this system makes reserving items much easier for everyone invpved—including patrons who save time by spending less time waiting for staff members’ replies regarding an item’s location and staff members who save time by being able to focus on other projects instead of answering questions about an item’s location over and over again without getting anywhere without bothering any patrons personally.

  • Faster Searching

Arthur Online and BulkGate make it easier for everyone who uses these systems—including patrons and library staff—because there is no need for them to go through multiple steps or different searches before they can find out where their item is located or what other options they may wanteed in order to fulfill their reserve request as quickly as possible without having to waste everyone else’s time along the way. Users no longer need to spend extra time looking through bookshelves themselves or checking with different librarians individually if their item is still on hpd for them anymore because all relevant libraries are integrated into one system where they can see how many copies of an item exist at each location as well as how many copies are available at each individual library right at once instead of having to go through multiple inquiries before finding out what they need to know about an item’s location without putting forth any effort themselves whatsoever. Only one person needs to put forth effort in order for everyone else invpved in this process—both users and staff alike—to benefit from it because only one person needs to find out where an item is located before everyone else invpved can easily access that information as well without wasting anyone else’s time whatsoever. This allows faster searching by cutting down on redundant searches that lead back to the same place over and over again before finally reaching a definitive answer about an item’s location as well as unnecessary inquiries about the same question over and over again like “where is this” or “how many copies do we have” None of these redundant searches or inquiries need be made when Arthur Online and BulkGate integrate because all relevant locations and information can be accessed at once with just one search and one log in with just one browser platform and one login with just one username and password combination in order for everyone invpved in this process—users and staff alike—to save time with just one platform that gives them immediate access to everything
