Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2. provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. You can use Amazon EC2 to launch as many Amazon Machine Images (AMIs. as you need and pay only for the compute capacity you use. Amazon EC2 eliminates upfront investments in hardware, and lets you pay a low hourly rate for the compute capacity that you use.
EC2 offers a wide range of instance types, with different combinations of CPU, memory, network and storage, to provide the flexibility needed to adapt to your application performance requirements. Amazon EC2 offers two types of instances:
You can launch an On-Demand Instance by specifying the AMI you want to run, the instance type, and a quantity of instances. You can use On-Demand Instances in any way you see fit and there are no commitments or up-front costs. Amazon EC2 charges you by the hour for any instance that you have running.
Spot Instances enable you to bid on spare Amazon EC2 capacity at significant discounts compared to On-Demand prices, but at the risk that your instance may be terminated when the price you specified is matched by another customer’s bid. If the Spot price of an instance type is below the On-Demand price of that same instance type, then any instances launched using that instance type will automatically terminate after a maximum of 24 hours of usage unless you specify a specific start time for your instance. Spot Instances must be used within 60 minutes of their launch, or they will be terminated and your bid will be returned.
A spot instance request consists of a starting price and a maximum price. When the current Spot price exceeds your maximum price, your spot instance request will remain active until the next instance request is made or until the Spot price falls below your maximum price. For more information on Spot Instances, please refer to our documentation.
Unlike other cloud computing services that provide virtual machines as an abstraction layer over physical servers, EC2 runs on AWS infrastructure, which means that we offer high availability, security, reliability, and scalability in addition to resource elasticity.
shippit is a simple shipping calculator built on top of Stripe and Amazon S3. It allows you to quickly estimate shipping costs based on a product weight and desired delivery speed. It also allows you to easily embed a shipping calculator into your Shopify store so customers can get shipping estimates before adding items to their cart.
Integration with Amazon EC2 and shippit provides ease of use, availability, and scalability for users.
Ease of Use. Integration of EC2 with shippit makes it easy for users to set up the service without wasting time in setting up servers or writing scripts. The user can simply access the service from anywhere in the world via Internet browser or mobile app. The integration also allows users to set up multiple accounts at once for different business projects without going through the hassle of setting up new accounts every time. This feature greatly reduces the time needed to set up several accounts especially when launching a new business project.
Availability. Integration with EC2 ensures that shippit is available anytime and anywhere making it convenient for users who need to perform shipping calculations even without having access to a physical computer or device such as laptop or mobile phone. Users can access shippit through Internet browser or mobile app even when they are in an airplane or remote area. This feature is very useful for people who need to perform multiple tasks while traveling such as online shopping, travel planning, booking flights, etc., since they can do it all while on-the-go without needing a laptop or mobile phone.
Scalability. Integration with EC2 helps shippit scale and maintain its functionality when faced with heavy traffic or increased number of users in order to ensure that its ability to provide free shipping calculations remains effective despite increased use and traffic. For example, if shippit is used by thousands of sellers at once due to increased traffic and more stores using it as their shipping calculator, integration with EC2 will allow shippit to increase its capacity by adding more servers to its system to cope with increased traffic and number of users without experiencing downtime or errors that could potentially occur if shippit runs on a single server without scaling up or down based on workload or increased traffic. This feature is very useful for sellers who want fast shipping calculations even when they experience higher than normal traffic due to marketing campaigns, sales events, product launches, etc. In addition, this feature is useful for sellers who are trying to expand their business internationally since this integration increases the sellers’ ability to reach out more customers globally by providing fast shipping calculations in different countries around the world.
