When you are done with them, you don’t have to buy additional hardware or get expensive information technpogy (IT. staff members to shut down the servers. With Amazon EC2, it’s easy to create and manage virtual servers, whether you need one for testing, one for development, or thousands for your production environment.
MailChimp Ecommerce helps ecommerce businesses sell online by providing a direct connection to their MailChimp account. The integration provides an out-of-the-box experience that makes it easy to add MailChimp products, create product options, and offer related products.
Amazon EC2 is used for large scale applications without any specific hardware requirement. On the other hand, MailChimp Ecommerce is used for small businesses with fewer customer transaction per day on its website. Using these two services together, both the types of customers can enjoy the benefits and features of each service and can run their business smoothly and efficiently.
Keeping in mind this fact, we developed a script which allows to automatically add new MailChimp customers to an existing AWS instance. This script runs automatically when we add a new customer to our MailChimp account. It queries the list of all customers from our MailChimp account and retrieves their email address. For each email address found, it creates a new IAM user to that email address and adds the access keys to that user’s ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file using AWS CLI. Also it creates a new security group in AWS and adds this new user to this security group so that the user has access to this instance. Once this is done, it stops and deletes all existing instances in this security group and starts a fresh instance with the same AMI in this security group. So we have a single instance for each customer in our security group. Now we can add our customers manually in this instance using the ssh key copied by the script and we can also add them using FTP if we choose to. To do that we just need to add their email address in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file using aws cli or sudo sshd -i . Once they are added, we can use the existing codebase once again to export all existing customers from our MailChimp account and push this data to our EC2 instance. This way we will have all our customers’ data stored in a centralized location which can be accessed from anywhere. We can use this data to send email campaigns or newsletters or even order delivery notifications or anything else that comes to our mind by using AWS Lambda function or any other scalable computing service.
