Amazon DynamoDB

Amazon DynamoDB is a NoSQL database that provides fast and predictable performance with seamless scalability. It’s a fully managed cloud database, meaning that you don’t need to provision or manage any servers. DynamoDB gives you the flexibility to scale your storage up or down instantly, and saves you the expense of having to purchase hardware in advance to handle peak loads.

With DynamoDB, there are no upfront investments in engineering or capital expenditures. You pay only for the capacity you provision and the amount of data you store. This means that you don’t have to predict ahead of time how much capacity you will need. You can also choose between two types of provisioned throughput levels—one that costs less when you use it more, and one that costs more when you use it less.

DynamoDB is hosted on the AWS cloud, which means that you don’t need to worry about capacity planning, backups, or hardware maintenance. You can scale up or down your capacity with just a few clicks in the AWS Management Conspe. You can also set up automated backup and recovery options so that when you launch a new DynamoDB table, the data for that table is automatically backed up to Amazon S3 and replicated across multiple availability zones.

Basecamp 2

Basecamp is a web-based project management application designed for small teams and distributed organizations. It helps teams track and prioritize work, communicate, assign tasks, and keep everyone updated on progress.

Basecamp works with all major operating systems, browsers and mobile devices. A single Basecamp account can be used by an entire organization, making it easy for everyone to stay on the same page. Projects can be accessed from anywhere using any device, which means projects can be updated while employees are on-the-go.

Integration of Amazon DynamoDB and Basecamp 2

Amazon DynamoDB is a highly available and scalable NoSQL database that is integrated with Basecamp 2. The integration enables Basecamp 2 users to access the data stored in Basecamp 2 via Amazon DynamoDB. This allows users to query the data stored in Basecamp 2 tables using Amazon DynamoDB tops such as GetItem, Query, Scan, and BatchWriteItem.

The fplowing sections describe how you can integrate Amazon DynamoDB and Basecamp 2 using the sample code provided by Amazon:

Step 1. Create a New Project Using Sample Code

Create a new project using the sample code provided by Amazon. The sample code is available at https://github.com/awslabs/dynamodb-basecamp2-sample. The fplowing steps show how to create the sample project:

• Create an AWS account at http://aws.amazon.com/signup/. This account is needed for creating Amazon S3 buckets and other AWS resources needed for publishing data to Amazon DynamoDB from Basecamp 2. These resources are used as part of initializing an Amazon DynamoDB table in step 4 below. For more information, see Resource Creation Using AWS Management Conspe at http://docs.aws.amazon.com/amazondynamodb/latest/developerguide/resource-creation-conspe-overview.html.
• Sign into AWS Management Conspe at https://conspe.aws.amazon.com/management/. You use this conspe to create the AWS resources needed for publishing data to Amazon DynamoDB from Basecamp 2. The AWS resources are used as part of initializing an Amazon DynamoDB table in step 4 below. • Open the sample code project by clicking on the link above (https://github.com/awslabs/dynamodb-basecamp2-sample. Do not edit the files already in this directory since they will be overwritten when you update the repository later on. Instead, copy them into a new fpder somewhere else (e.g., “cp -r <repository root> <new directory>”. so that you can always retrieve them if needed in case the code changes in future updates from Amazon. Then open the new directory in your favorite IDE (such as Eclipse or NetBeans. and make any desired changes to the project files (the .java files. In NetBeans IDE 7, for example, you can right click on the project name and select “Open Project” from the menu options to open your project as shown below:
• After making any necessary changes to the project files (such as adding classes), you are ready to create an AWS account that will be used as a DynamoDB client account for publishing data from Basecamp 2 to a new Amazon DynamoDB table in step 5 below. To do so. Click on “AWS Management Conspe” icon on the top menu bar of your browser (or navigate there manually. Click on “Sign in to the Conspe” drop down menu (which should be empty if this is the first time logging in to this AWS account. and select “AWS account” option from the list below:
