    What is Amazon CloudWatch?

Amazon CloudWatch is a web service that provides monitoring for AWS cloud resources and the applications you run on AWS. It was announced in April 2011 at the Amazon Web Services (AWS. Summit in New York City.[1] With Amazon CloudWatch, you can collect and store metrics, set alarms, and view your metric history. You can use these metrics to drive Auto Scaling decisions and create alarms to send notifications when thresholds are crossed. You can also use Amazon CloudWatch to collect data from other AWS services or custom applications, including logs, performance metrics, and operating system metrics.[1]

    What is Filter By Connect?

Filter By Connect is a feature of Amazon CloudWatch that allows you to export metrics from one AWS resource to another. For example, you can export instance CPU utilization from an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. instance to Amazon CloudWatch Logs. You can then use the Logs filter to create alarms based on CPU usage in your apps. This article shows how to set up a simple filter by connect application with a Python application that runs on an Amazon EC2 instance. The Python application sends its CPU utilization statistics to Amazon CloudWatch Logs using the standard library logging module. The filter by connect application uses the same library to write the CPU utilization statistics to another Amazon EC2 instance in the same Availability Zone as the source instance .[2]
