Integration of Amazon CloudWatch and DocuSign

For this assignment, I chose to do my research on Amazon CloudWatch and DocuSign. I chose to compare the two because I am familiar with both of them, and I thought it would be a good idea to learn more about them and relate them back to my own job.

In this section, I will describe how Amazon CloudWatch and DocuSign work together. First, let's start with Amazon CloudWatch. Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring service that Amazon provides to its users. It has four main dimensions. metrics, alarms, events, and metricsets. Metrics are used for tracking resources such as CPU, memory, and disk space for applications running in AWS. Alarms can be used for monitoring any metric that you can set up in CloudWatch. Events are events that occur in AWS such as an instance being started or stopped. Finally, metricsets are groups of metrics that can be monitored. To get started with CloudWatch, you need a AWS account which can be obtained by signing up for one at https://aws.amazon.com/. You then need to install the AWS tools (the recommended way is using pip. Once you have installed the AWS tools, you can use the AWS CLI to configure your environment and create your first CloudWatch metric. The steps to do this are:In order to integrate DocuSign into AWS, a user must first get an API token from DocuSign. They can get the token by going to https://www.docusign.net/developer/signin/login?client_id=XXX&state=YYY&state_name=ZZZ. This gives the user a token that they can use when they make calls to the DocuSign API. To call this API, you need a DocuSign account which can be created here. https://www.docusign.net/developer/signin/login?client_id=XXX&state=YYY&state_name=ZZZ . Now that a user has an API token from DocuSign and a DocuSign account, they can use the AWS CLI to create an S3 bucket for storing DocuSign files in. This can be done using the following commands:Once the user has an S3 bucket created, they need to create a policy that will allow them to call the DocuSign API and pass data between us-east-1 and their bucket. To do this, they can use the following command:Once they have set up the policy, they need to define an IAM role that allows them to access their S3 bucket and assume that role so that they can call the DocuSign API. To do this, we first need to create a role using the following command:We also need to attach an inline policy (the url for this policy can be found by expanding "Attach inline policies" in the previous step. that allows us to call the DocuSign API and pass data between us-east-1 and our S3 bucket:Finally, we need to assume the role so we can call DocuSign:

As you can see, there are a lot of steps involved in integrating these two services. It took me a while to set them up using just the AWS CLI, but I think it was worth it because I learned a lot about each service and got to see how someone might use them together. As a developer at Coho Data, I will likely never have to integrate these two services but I think it is useful for me to know how they work together and what they can accomplish if I ever do end up working with them.

The process to integrate Amazon CloudWatch and DocuSign may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick solution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
