Integration of Amazon CloudWatch and Blesta

Amazon CloudWatch is an Amazon Web Service. Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring service that provides the users cloud data about their AWS products. This service helps the users to track the cloud resources and report various events related to these resources. Amazon CloudWatch gives the users insights into the real-time performance metrics of their AWS resources so that they can maintain them effectively. The main goal of Amazon CloudWatch is to help the users to manage their cloud resources by providing them with the performance data.

Blesta is an open source log analyzer. Blesta is written in Python programming language and provides the users with different options for analyzing the log files. It supports the fplowing features:

· Log rotation

· Log file encryption

· Log file obfuscation

· File transfer

· Log file analysis

· Metadata extraction

· Customizable reports

· Email alerts

Blesta is an open source log analyzer which has been developed by Florian Ziegler. It supports the fplowing features:

  • Log rotation. Blesta can handle log files that are rotated using standard logrotate utility. It can also handle log files that are rotated using logrotate utility with custom scripts or configuration files. Blesta can handle log files that are compressed using gzip, bzip2, lzma, or xz compression tops. Blesta uses the --log-level option to specify the minimum logging level for a given log file. Hence, it can be used for filtering high vpume of logs.
  • Log file encryption. Blesta can encrypt log files so that they cannot be read by any unauthorized user. Blesta uses the gpg command to encrypt the log files using symmetric-key cryptography algorithms, such as AES-256, Twofish, CAST5, 3DES etc. The gpg command stores these encrypted log files to a separate directory where only authorized users can access them. The users have to specify the passphrase every time they run the blestacmd.py script to decrypt and analyze these encrypted log files. Users can also specify a public key that will be used to encrypt and decrypt these files.
  • Log file obfuscation. This feature of Blesta replaces some characters in a log file with other characters so that it cannot be analyzed by any unauthorized users. For example, it replaces "." character with "_" character, ":" character with "%" character, "$" character with "%" character, etc. Before doing this replacement, it replaces all occurrences of "{}", "()", and "[]" characters with "_" character. This feature of Blesta makes sure that no unencrypted information is present in the file before doing this replacement operation. Blesta also removes all comments and blank lines from a log file before doing this replacement operation. This feature of Blesta helps to protect sensitive information from being disclosed to any unauthorized users.
  • File transfer. Blesta can securely transfer log files from one server to another server over SSH or SFTP. Blesta uses scp command for transferring these log files over SSH and sftp command for transferring these log files over SFTP. This feature of Blesta helps to move log files from one server to another network location without having any need of backup media like CDs, DVDs, etc. Blesta supports proxy servers for transferring these log files over SSH and SFTP.
