Product Update Email

Product update emails are sent out to existing customers by businesses and brands to update them about the features and new updates available within the services/product they’re using. Such updates could be about new features/benefits, launches, improvements within existing features, bug fixes, and other things that could impact the user experience in any way.

Update emails keep customers informed and up-to-date on changes to their product or the service and help businesses in customer engagement and retention. It also builds trust and credibility for the business as customers notice how the business is constantly improving and consistently giving valuable service to its customers.

Elements of the product update email

  • Catchy subject lines: Subject lines influence the customer’s interest in your email as it is the first thing any customer would read or notice before actually opening an email. When the subject line is to-the-point and interesting, the chances of getting it read by the customer increases. Also, the first impression is the last impression, so subject lines should be enticing.

  • Clear and concise messaging: Update emails are more informative and formal. Therefore, the copy should be straightforward and succinct for the reader to understand your message immediately. Explaining the features and benefits, in short, will save the time of your customers, and by this, the customers will know that your business talks are straight and not confusing.

  • Visuals and graphics: People see before reading and making their decision. If the visuals and graphics are not used, the email copy would look dull and tiring for the reader to read. On the other hand, if visuals are not going good quality which means the use of contrasting colors, and meaningful and relevant images, the customer might not take the pain to read out the entire email.

  • Call-to-action buttons: Leading customers at the desired CTA fulfills the purpose of sending an email of any kind. It informs customers about what to do next.

Designing product update emails

  • Choosing the right template: When designing a product update email, it’s important to choose a template that fits your brand and the purpose of your message. Consider the style, layout, and color scheme that best represents your brand and make it easy for recipients to understand the content of your email.

  • Branding of email: Make sure to include your brand’s logo and use your brand’s colors and fonts throughout the email. This helps to reinforce your brand’s identity and makes your email easily recognizable to your subscribers.

  • Optimization for various devices: More than half of emails are opened on mobile devices, so it’s crucial to optimize your email design for mobile screens. Keep your message short and to the point, use legible font size, and use responsive design techniques to ensure that your email looks good on any device.

  • A/B testing of design: A/B testing allows you to compare two versions of your email to see which performs better. Test different elements of your email design, such as subject lines, calls to action, and images, to optimize your email for maximum engagement and conversions.

Good practice of product update email

  • Segmenting Your Email List: Not all of your customers will be interested in every product update you release. By segmenting your email list, you can ensure that you’re only sending updates to the people who are most likely to be interested. This also helps to avoid annoying customers who may be overwhelmed by too many irrelevant updates.

  • Personalizing Your Message: People are more likely to engage with content that feels personalized to them. Use data you have on your customers to tailor the message to their needs and interests. This could include referencing their past purchase history or specific features they have used before.

  • Keeping it Short and Sweet: People have short attention spans, and if your email is too long or wordy, they may not read it all. Keep your message concise and to the point, highlighting the most important information about the product update. Use headings, bullet points, and images to break up the text and make it more visually appealing.

  • Adding Social Proof: People are more likely to trust and try out new products if they see that others have had positive experiences with them. Include customer reviews, testimonials, or statistics about the product’s success to add credibility and encourage customers to take action.
