OTIP or Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan, is a Canadian insurance provider for educators situated in Ontario. It provides educators better deals on health, auto, and home insurance to help them manage their finances.

Challenge

OTIP wanted to build its own mobile app to increase its user reach and provide its customers with a better overall experience. Since their secure member website interacts with multiple third-party dependencies and tools for their customer-facing services, they needed access to APIs that would allow them to build a native mobile app.

However, since these were secure third-party tools, they could not get API access, and it was cutting them off from being able to build a secure mobile app-style interface for consumption. So they turned to Appy Pie.

Solution

After testing out multiple vendors for no-code applications, they finally chose Appy Pie. The app allows customers to view, update, and edit their insurance benefits, submit and review insurance claims, and view the status of their claims.

The app has also helped OTIP improve their existing mobile website support and they are actively making changes to both the mobile website and app to enhance their user experience. OTIP admires Appy Pie’s excellent customer service and app publishing support, as well as constant support whenever they need it.

Impact

The app can be used by over 270,000 members of OTIP’s group benefit plan members for their insurance claim-related work. The mobile app also helps these customers use the apps directly whenever they need to check on their insurance coverage and more. The app currently has over 10,000 downloads and is available on both Android and iOS.
