Reddit Marketing: Things You Need to Know Before Posting on Reddit

Reddit is a popular news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Registered users can submit content to the site such as links, text posts, and images, which are then voted up or down by other members.

If you want to post on Reddit, you will need a Reddit, if you don’t already have one. While, you can start posting right away, but there are a few things you should learn first.

Things You Need to Know Before You Post on Reddit

Reddit is quite different from popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While Facebook and Instagram are user-focused, Reddit is more focused on communities (called “subreddits”). Members of those communities vote on whether or not the post is worthwhile, and the number of votes determines whether users subscribed to that subreddit see posts or not.

This can be confusing for new users and you should ensure that you know the correct subreddit you should post your content to and know its rules as well. For example, if you want to post a photo of your dog you can post it to r/aww or r/dogs, or if you want to post a photo of a dish you ate, you can post it to r/food. You should spend some time browsing through a subreddit before you post on a subreddit.

You should be careful when posting content as spam and reposts are highly looked down upon. Many users often report and point out such content and moderators of some subreddits might even hand out temporary and permanent bans for such content.

How to Post on Reddit?

Once you know everything about posting on Reddit, you can start posting on the platform. You should then head to the specific subreddit you want to post and click on create a post.

From here you can post four kinds of content: a Text post, an image or video, a Link, and you can even create a poll. You can receive notifications for any comments that are posted on your post.

Text posts require a title, while the Text part is optional for some subreddits and compulsory for others. This is a great way to start a conversation. Once you have written what you want for the post, click on the “Post” button.

Media posts require a title and a video or photo, which you can upload from your computer. You can also post multiple images or videos on one post. You should make sure to mark anything that's not safe to work with the NSFW tag. Once you have uploaded the images you want to post, click on the “Post” button.

Link posts just require a title and a link.

To create poll posts, you need to enter a title and poll options. You can enter as many poll options as you want. You also need to select the duration for which the poll will run before closing down. You can also edit the options once you have posted. You can also add text to your post, although that’s optional.

Once you’ve posted on Reddit, you can’t be sure how many people will see your posts. It depends on a system called “Karma” that Reddit has. Also, if you receive any Reddit awards from other users, the reach of your post increases.
